Were you ever around older people a lot and changed your life

Aside from your family. I am living In a house I’m by far the youngest person. I feel I am attaining a lot of wisdom and maturity and shared experience by being around older people. It is great :+1:. I wish I could put every thread in “health and recovery” but I know @Rhubot would start yelling and getting mad at me  (or she’d just move it to lounge  )

Most of my best friends have been significantly older than me, I think because I had trouble relating to peers, adult friends as a teenager etc. I feel like it’s developed my social skills a certain way more than anything else… it’s nice to be around folks you can learn from.

My best friend is 32 and my housemate Ashley is 59. I think Ashley is one of the best guys and best relationships I’ve ever had. Throw astrology out the window! Third straight Virgo that I’ve resll bonded with !

I also like younger friends because they look up to me a bit and have tons of respect. But yeah older friends are fun. I have no friends my age. It’s nice to get ideas from different perspectives. Especially since we are open minded ;). But critical at the same time ;). My parents are also around 70 and they are my true best friends. But I said don’t include family but still think it’s matured me.

Same to that; I’m too young to have many really younger friends but, recently I’m meeting people at the groups held at my mental health service… this year there were a few transferring from the children’s service to the one for teens and young adults. I always try to be really positive and welcoming with them… it’s nice to be someone’s role model, keeps you in check lol. And I’m very close to my mother too, we carry on like best friends :stuck_out_tongue:

I didnt know anything about life at 22. Then i got a job as a home health aid for elderly. I grew up with the help of 100 year old ladies. Now i.live with a roommate who is 70. Old people give the planet something young people cant.

I love to hear old folk stories. My grandmother told when she was young a guy got “fresh” with her and she pushed him into a trash can

She also wasn’t allowed to dance bc her mother thought it was a sin so my grandmother would sneak out and go dancing.

I used to seek out all of the older people to learn what was ahead, what is the best way to phrase things, and all of that.

Now I seek out all the women as life and the world are no longer a mystery to me.

I worked with the elderly and even the very elderly all my working life and I loved it. Some were very confused with dementia, and others were as lucid as any one else. I love the elderly. It’s a heart thing for me. I am living amongst them now and have been for the last three years. But, alas, I can’t afford to live amongst them anymore and I am moving to a regular apartment two weeks from now. Wish me well, everybody. It’s going to be a big change.
