Weight gain on meds

On meds that make you gain weight, do you do so indefinitely? Because I’m seriously underweight and the antipsychotic I was on last year as well as the antidepressant now both made me gain weight… that’s really good for me but won’t be if I never stop. What’s your experience?

I gained 15 kgs since I started antipsychotics.
Risperidone made me gain weight.
Now i take other antipsychotics. I have appetite

If I gained 15kg and no more I’d be approaching a healthy weight… that’d be nice

My weight increased by nearly 15 kg over the past 20 years because of anti psychotic medication. These drugs make you hungry for food, ie they increase your appetite and you end up eating more than required and hence gain weight. Doctors say that we have to restrict our intake of food, but when the stomach is burning, you can’t resist eating more and gain weight. This is an unfortunate side effect of nearly every anti psychotic. Obesity is termed as the root cause of many ailments and metabolic disorders. Hope the future drugs will be safer than the present drugs in this regard.

I have been trying to lose weight for such a long time. I am exercising, dieting, I’m a vegan and not a single pound loss.

I decided to starve myself

@mermaid1 Don’t starve yourself! :frowning: have you tried counting calories yet?

Also, this is totally unrelated, but I always mistake your profile picture for a chicken ahah

It’s fine. I am meeting my daily protein needs.

Thank you. I guess.
