If I’ve gained 30 kg from clozapine and I’m then put on risperidone additionally… Will I gain more weight?
Clozapine is one of the worst APs for weight gain. Risperidone is one of the worst APs for prolactin elevation, which elevated levels of prolactin can also lead to weight gain.
I would try to switch both if I were you.
I’d only agree to that if the new drugs worked on the illness. Weight gain is bad but psychosis is worse.
No one should have to endure putting on 30kilos of weight due to a medication. EVEN if the medication is working…30 kilos is 66 pounds!
There are plenty of APs to try out, some of which are weight neutral.
Well there’s certainly nothing wrong with trying one. Just be aware of the signs it will not work such as mania, agitation, worsening psychotic symptoms (obviously in some cases), insomnia, pacing, extrovertism after being an introvert, and running thoughts. Those were some of the symptoms I had while on Latuda which otherwise beautifully controlled my weight. Even if you don’t have psychosis with the other symptoms happening you are in trouble. If you look on the possible side effects on some drugs you will find those symptoms and more along with a message to contact your doctor. If your personality does a 180 degrees it may not be the miracle you think it is.
