We found a bed bug

Our upstairs neighbor found out they had bed bugs luckily they let us know. When I found out I looked all over for signs of them and didnt find anything. Went through and washed everything and continued to keep an eye out for signs. Apparently I didn’t do a good enough job as this morning I was sleeping on the couch and something felt off with my neck/shoulder and it got itchy. Ive been so paranoid about bugs lately that I bolted upright and grabbed my phone for a flashlight. I found a bed bug crawling on my pillow.

I ended up with bites on my shoulder, arm close to my wrist and hand close to my wrist. I also found out that I’m apparently really sensitive to them. The one on my arm had 3 bites close together but you could tell they were separate, they looked like mosquito bites but as time went on they’ve swelled into one large lump, about 1"x1 1/2". It doesnt really itchy but it hurts to the touch and is causing my wrist joints to ache along with some hand joints.

When I found it I immediately took everything cloth in the living room and threw it in plastic bags until I could get it all washed. This is at like 5-5:30 in the morning and I’d only gotten maybe 3 hours of sleep. I’d woken up my husband A. Because I was freaking out about the situation and needed a support and B. So that he could help me. Once we got things bagged up we just threw the couch straight in the dumpster. It was pretty broken and ready to fall apart anyways and I wasn’t going to deal with it if it was infested with bed bugs.

Let our landlord know right away. She contacted an exterminator and he came out for an inspection. I was worried since we’d thrown the couch out but I had saved the one I’d found and kept it in a ziplock bag and it was enough evidence for him to warrant treatment. He also checked our bedroom but didn’t find any signs of them there. He said hes gonna contact our landlord to figure out the next course of action. And told me to basically keep doing what I’m doing.

I still have so much cleaning to do. Decluttering and vacuuming, and laundry. I ran out of coins for laundry though. I thought the banks closed at 5 but they close at 4. I’m so exhausted I don’t want to do anything. I feel like all my energy is just going to trying to keep myself calm. With this bug issue on top of our recent ant issue, on top of our renovation issue, on top of the fact that I’m due in just over 2 months my anxiety is freaking out. I’m doing my best not to get paranoid but its been really hard.

That’s a tough day. I hope you can get some rest. I know what it’s like to burn the candle at both ends. I hope your week gets better.

Man. What a day! That absolutely sucks! I hope you can get a good nights sleep so you can be fresh and ready to deal with all that. Good luck!

That’s rough, but I’m glad you caught them. I remember one of the places I’d stay outpatient had a policy of switching every patient into paper scrubs while their clothing was placed in this weird plastic bag-like device that gets really hot with the sole purpose of killing bedbugs. Once it’s been in the device long enough you get it back and can wear it.

Sorry @NeoPolitan02:neutral_face:
I HATE bugs, crawling ones…
I’ve seen enough in my life…

Your absolute adrenaline fueled response to the bed bug is admirable. No other response would have been better. I know you’ll be ok. But it’s hard, and I know you’re tired. I hope you get some good rest soon.
