@wave I have a question for you

As long as I’m taking metoprolol I won’t get really high heart rate? I’ve only been on it for a month. I know you’re not a doctor but you take the same med. I’m scared.

No it should calm down your rate. I’m on it and it’s helped.

Maybe it just takes a while to adjust to it. Yesterday at the er it was 122 bpm.

You may need an increase or there are other factors that are causing a racing heart. Like caffeine, or infection, or other meds. If you feel out of breath or light headed go to the doctor right away.

I’m answering instead of @Wave. He probably have better insights. It does work for me.

I drink caffeine still. Time to quit that. Thanks.

Yah, if you have tachycardia, caffeine harts it. Unfortunately you probably need to drink caffeine free beverages. Just a suggestion. I know that’s inconvenient.

Hi @roxanna
I have a naturally fast heart and high blood pressure.
The metoprolol slows down my heart rate to normal levels and lowers my blood pressure at the same time.
Give it some more time, one month may not be enough time.

If your heart rate is still high you may need an adjustment to your metoprolol.

Your family doctor or cardiologist should be aware of this.

And don’t forget @roxanna you suddenly stopped taking your metoprolol and when you abruptly stop taking metoprolol it can increase your heart rate even higher than what it is normally.

Make sure you have enough metoprolol on hand at all times.
Make sure you don’t skip or stop taking it suddenly.
Abruptly stopping metoprolol is dangerous, this can lead to tachycardia or even heart attack or stroke.
