I am sorry that happened and I can appreciate that it leaves you wondering what may have happened or what he was thinking. I agree with @77nick77. Maybe you’re just not his type. That is a very difficult thing to tell someone. I am not justifying his behavior but maybe he though faking a call was preferable to potentially hurting your feelings. YOU are beautiful! Regardless if you happen to be his thing or not.
