Was almost in a car wreck - it helps to pay attention

Today I was making a left turn onto a street by way of a green arrow. An old man with handicapped plates in an old Crown Victoria decided to buzz in front of me, making a hyper-fast turn right on a red light in my oncoming path. The poor old ■■■■■■■ didn’t see that the traffic he was turning into was at a dead stop and he smashed into some poor college girl’s Saturn, destroying both cars. I completed my turn to get out of the intersection, threw my hazard lights on, rolled down the windows, and stepped onto the median. I whipped out my cell phone and called 911. I told the operator briefly what happened, that there was a hazardous fluid situation, as the old man’s car was leaking antifreeze, and her Saturn may have been leaking fuel. She was also holding her neck, and I also relayed this to 911, telling her there was a “very likely” chance of injuries. Soon, the cavalry showed up. I gave a statement to the cops, and also gave out my contact information. Both the old man and the girl were taken away on a stretcher with a neck brace. If I hadn’t looked beyond the old man, I may have smacked into someone. Not a good afternoon.

Wow, that sucks.

You handled it like a pro it sounds like.

I’ve almost been run over about six times at my intersection, people just don’t pay attention really, people have money here so they haven’t ever seen people that walk, either that or they are targeting me and trying to kill me.

I was thinking, maybe cars should be a little slower?

You handled it really well @anon40540444 - good for you

I’m ashamed–I witnessed a car wreck several months ago and I just turned the corner and got out of the way. I didn’t want to get involved. What you did is much better, sounds like you handled the situation maturely. Car wrecks are scary. I get nervous about them all the time. I’ve been in two, neither my fault, and it’s so frustrating to see that these people aren’t paying attention!!!

Gotta be careful with that, @elizabeth. They can come after you for leaving the scene of an accident.
