Vitamin b6 (p5p variant). Negative results 😢

So I’ve been trying vitamin b6. High doses of vitamin b6 are toxic. Like 100mg /day.

Research seemed to indicate that the p5p ( pyridoxal 5’-phosphate) variant of vitamin b6 wasn’t toxic.

So I tried 100mg a day of vitamin b6 p5p.

Eventually I got the symptoms of a stomach ulcer!

All of this is incredibly disappointing as it made a difference to my negative symptom of avolition.

I’ve now stopped vitamin b6 completely and my stomach is getting back to normal quite quickly.

But like I said, very disappointing.

Just thought I’d report my personal experience.

Have you tried vitamin B3? Or D3?

Yes. Neither were anything special .

The only things that help me are energy drinks and an infusion of mate cocido, which in my country comes from the yerba mate plant. Is mate cocido sold in your country?

Some studies suggest that people who drink large amounts of yerba mate for a long time may have a higher risk of some types of cancer. This includes cancer of the mouth, throat and lungs. The higher risk is linked with drinking about 1 to 2 liters, or 4 to 8 cups, of yerba mate a day.

You could try again with a lower dose. I’m pretty sure p5p is sold as 25mg by some brands.

Sometimes dose matters in developing side effects. Other times it’s sort of a allergic reaction and you need to avoid it alltogether.

I actually have p5p in the following doses

20mg
25mg
40mg
100mg

I tried the lower doses and they didn’t help my avolition. 100mg seemed to be the tipping point.

It’s possible I could use 100mg as a PRN. But regular use seems to be a no go.

I’ve been experimenting with b6 p5p for months now.

I notice improvements by drinking just one cup of cooked mate. It is sold in a similar way to tea, but there is nothing negative about it. Do some research on the internet, it is typical of Argentina. Maybe the cooked mate can help you, it is taken in a sachet as if it were tea.

I don’t think it’s available here.

Be careful with it though. If it’s a potential carcinogen.

They sell it in all supermarkets. It’s the same as tea bags. Yes, I recently read that it can be carcinogenic but in high doses.

Since I stopped taking it, my muscles are less stiff too.

Stomach appears back to normal (fingers crossed)

The stuff seemed to be toxic. But the kicker is it helped my avolition.

I’ll see if I can get away with taking it occasionally. Maybe.

Did you try methyl folate? Some people can’t take regular folate.

Yes, I’ve tried methyl folate. It made me super anxious :cold_sweat:. Thanks for the suggestion though.
