There have been quite a few times in recent years that I have had this weird experience. I would just be minding my own business, when dozens of points of light would appear in my visual field. These points of light would then start to move and leave trails. After a few minutes, sometimes maybe 5 minutes or more, it would stop and the lights would go away.
I normally only hallucinate during psychotic breaks, which makes me wonder if it really was a hallucination, or if it was just some weird thing my eyes were doing.
I first remember it happening when I was staying with my dad after my ex-wife kicked me out, two months after my last psychotic break. It was happening often at that time. That was nearly nine years ago, and it hasn’t happened all that frequently in the nine years since then, just happens here and there.
Does this sound familiar to anybody? Have I been hallucinating or do I just have screwy eyes? It hasn’t happened in a while.
I’ve never really experienced this. But since hallucinations often are related to stressful events (or not), I do have a hypothesis about your case.
You said you remember it happening when you were staying with your dad after your ex-wife kicked you out. And that it happened a lot at that time. I believe it was a stressful time in your life, that your ex-wife kicked you out, and so. Therefore those “dozens of points of light” would appear.
I don’t know if it’s a hallucination, but it really could be. I’m really confused right now and I have no clue what I’m talking about and I probably make no sense…?
I really do like your username though. I love Korn from the bottom of my heart!!
Not really a bright light thing for me. I first remember seeing it at night, actually. The first time I saw it I was standing outside my dad’s building at night, to smoke a cigarette. Some of what is described in this article sounds similar, but mine was not seen in bright light or against a blue backdrop such as the sky. It seems like it has just been at random times, or perhaps when I was stressed out, as I was when I was staying at my dad’s place in 2008.
Do you get visuals, usually? If this is a recent thing, and a departure from your normal hallucinations, you might want to get checked for physical causes. When I started having visuals, I had to get an EEG to rule out seizure activity.
You might consider having your eyes examined just to rule out a physical cause. Do you get the visuals in just one eye or both eyes? If it’s in both eyes, it could be an optical migraine. If it’s just in one eye, it could be something with the eye itself.
I used to get visual hallucinations all the time. As I got older and the illness burned out, i stopped getting them. My visual hallucinations were replaced by auditory ones. Why are you worried about a simple symptom like this one? Enjoy it! It isn’t harming you, is it?
