I do know… they have a castle in Germany they tactically acquired in the pillaging days and have held onto it to this day…
@Csummers the horned veeking hat was a fabrication of our imaginations lol…I was kinda disappointed when I found out…

Seeing as I live in Scandinavia and 3 out of 4 of my grandparents were born here too, I’d be very surprised if there weren’t vikings in my family tree. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You mean those pictures were all faked?
Ack.
I’m going to have to put away my “Fin hat” now, but truthfully, it belongs to my Aunt’s husband.

Considering the number of blue eyed, red haired Irish relatives I have, pretty confident there are some Vikings marauding through my family tree.

I did the Ancestry.com DNA kit. I’m 62% Scottish/British/Welsh combo (they combine all three), 20% Irish, 7% Eastern European, 4% Baltic, 4%Western European, and 3% European Jew. So, considering the Vikings made themselves at home in much of those areas, I would say I have some Viking.

That’s pretty cool @Hedgehog I got 15% Irish on my Ancestry test.

And to answer the OP - Yes I think it would be interesting to know.

Did you see firemonkey’s post regarding gedmatch? I’m doing it right now. Love this stuff.
If I’m going to be human, I get to make it interesting, right?:blush:

according to my sister who did my family history book there is Viking blood in my family. Apparently that’s where I get my red beard from.

Not at all. British, Scottish and Welsh are three distinct ethnicities with different languages and cultural origins.
They all speak the British language (English), but Scottish have Scottish Gaelic as their original language, and the Welsh have their own language. All three have distinct historical influences, cultures and identities.

On my mothers side, there were Normans, basically French speaking descendants of Vikings. Got a fathers day deal on Ancestry DNA. I’m not a dad, but I don’t have one, so it evens out. Can’t wait for it to come in the mail.

I know I have no Vikings in my family tree, all my ancestry since the beginning of the 18th century and before has been born in some specific area in Finland … I am 100 % pure Finn …
