Ulotaront, a trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors agonist, has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of patients with an acute exacerbation of schizophrenia
So it’s not a dopamine agonist at all? This stuff is so confusing to try to get a grip on. I get a handle on dopamine and serotonin receptors and then they throw this TAAR1 into the mix.
I wonder if it will work as well and not amplify negative symptoms as much.
Apparently it doesn’t bind to D2 receptors at all. I wonder if it will work as well for controlling positive symptoms though…
It might still work just as well.
I really find it amusing that these kinds of videos are now a marketing strategy. I think it’s because of COVID and vaccine information videos.
The more confusing part is that TAAR1 receptors indirectly affect dopamine function.
From Wikipedia, “TAAR1 can reduce the firing rate of dopamine neurons, in turn preventing a hyper-dopaminergic state”.
I just hope its not another dopamine blocker, just with a fancy way of blocking dopamine.
Well then it might just be a different route to the same result.
Hopefully not, i think it lowers dopamine but not as much as by antagonizing dopamine receptora.
