About 9 months ago I quit smoking by vaping. I was vaping a fairly high level of nicotine. (12 mg in a sub ohm for about 8 hours and 6 mg in a sub ohm for about 8 hours) I started having high anxiety. I already have an anxiety disorder in addition to my SZA. Then after about 2 months I went into mania and full blown visual and audible hallucinations. The first thing the doc told me was to stop vaping and start smoking again and she added some quintepine to my meds. I came out of it a month or two later and was weened off of the quintepine. She said I could probably vape again if I wanted to a few months later. I think it might have been too much nicotine.
I am back on the vape at half to a quarter of the nicotine level (3 mg in a sub ohm) and have been doing O.k. for a couple of weeks. I still smoke a 2 to 3 cigarettes a day. ( Normally I would smoke 30 to 40 a day)
I was just wondering if anyone had trouble with symptoms while vaping and did lower nicotine help?
You’re not supposed to go above 6mg in a sub ohm. I recently tried 7mg and had to quit it as it made me super jittery. I’m doing great on 6mg though.
12mg is a mega dose for a sub ohm. I’m not surprised you had issues.

I’m a little skeptical that nicotine could cause mania and hallucinations but I guess it could have been a factor, especially given that you were probably vaping far more nicotine than you’d get from cigarettes. I know that back when I was smoking, I’d smoke them like a fiend when I was manic.
I vape 10mg at between 0.15-0.5ohm never had any problems personally. I chain vape quite a lot of time at home, but smoke cigs when I’m not at home. I struggle with anxiety also but have yet to notice any change related to nicotine intake
That’s why the pdoc said I could probably start vaping again. She didn’t think it was due to the vaping after a few months of being off of it.

I just wanted to quit smoking so bad that I allowed myself large doses of nicotine. This time I am allowing myself to smoke a few cigarettes. I’ve been averaging 2 to 4 cigarettes a day. I’m also at 3 mg in the sub ohm.
3mg should be quite safe.
I vape 3 mg using a .12 Ohm coil at 150 W
I also smoke two cigarettes in the morning with two cups of coffee.

Is there a particular reason not to go over 6mg with sub-ohm other than that you’ll get lots of nicotine intake? Just wondering if I ought to be reducing strength, though I’ve never had any problems so far
No, it’s just a good rule of thumb.

Yes, there’s another reason.
When you’re using a sub-ohm coil, say .1 or .2, the juice is going to be heated 2-3X faster than a coil >1 Ohm. Thus the “throat hit” will intensify. For example, using 24 mg nic at .1 Ohm at 270 W will burn your throat.
Another thing you can do to reduce throat hit is to increase the VG/PG ratio. Generally an 80/20 (VG/PG) is good to go.
