Uses for laptop

I have an old laptop that still runs pretty good. I upgraded the RAM on it a few years back.

What can I use it for ?

I’ve seen external monitor or as a streaming device, but what else can I use it for ?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I loaded Elementary OS on an older laptop and I use it for most of my writing. Works well enough.

Linux it, and then gift it (if no longer needed) to a close friend or relative?

Use it as a Speech to Text tool, or on-the-go monitor to play movies on the road?

If you want to upgrade it further, then I would recommend replacing the drive to a SSD, instead of a ?mechanical drive?, and getting a longer lasting battery.

You might be able to run server services on it, like the raspberry pi can do, or as a smart tv/dvd player (using kodi or other media services.)

Electronic devices generally don’t last very long, they generally last only a few years. For laptops and smart phones, they usually last less than five years. If you use a device beyond their reasonable scope of time, they may still be functional, but not in their ideal shape of maximum performance.

You may of course try to use your laptop to its fullest extent, before it becomes depleted. Maybe it is no longer capable for supporting video games, but you can surely still use it for some simple tasks, like writing, surfing the internet, or watching videos.

As some people have pointed out, there are means to salvage an old laptop. With reasonable measures to “fix” or “upgrade” your laptop, and with reasonable care, the device may last longer than five years, sometimes a laptop can last even ten years before it is finally declared to be wrecked
