User word count stats

hi, was wondering if it was possible to put word count into the stats for users on this site, i think that it would be very interesting

You mean to count the letters you typed?

Like maximum 1000 characters typed per post?

I think you will have to request this at the Discourse forum. I tried searching with a few strings but didn’t find anything.

I thought it would be interesting bc i believe the greater the word count is then the more meaningful the post, what do you think?

Idk how to request this, was wondering if someone could request it on my behalf x

I’ve actually found the opposite to be true, after a certain point. When someone posts paragraph after paragraph, it usually indicates they don’t care what response they get, and will just keep postin more paragraphs.

I agree. Some people ramble on and on about nothing meaningful whole others are very direct and to succinct with their posts. Length alone can’t really tell you much.

Idk, the long ramblers that write huge posts don’t stick around very long from what i have seen,

What if it was an average word count? it would all add up to a better general picture along with the rest of the stats about what that poster is actually like

It is better to say a lot in a few words than a lot and a bit in a lot of words.

are you all saying you oppose the idea then?

I don’t necessarily oppose it. I love seeing everyone’s stats and it wouldn’t be cool to see who posts the longest word counts and still manages to get their point across

it would be an overall thing,

it could build up a better picture about that person, if a person has many likes, many posts and lots of read time, put that together with a high average word count, it would be more meaningful, do you know what i mean?

Ok, another idea maybe instead of a word count what about a timer on each and every post made by each member?

Only thing about that would be that different people type at different speeds so i don’t think that would be very accurate

unless there is an average time spent for each letter per post,

say 10 letters was at a rate of 5 seconds or some thing.

Brevity is the soul of wit.

I don’t really care how much someone talks. I’ve been known to ramble. And I’ve had one word posts. They all contain. The same amount of thought.

I disagree,

I put a lot of thought into my posts most of the time.
and i am sure others do to.

the pen is mightier than the sword but who is mightier with the pen?:joy::joy::joy::v:

Given that so many people here have problems with long posts, I’d say, in the context of this forum, short and to the point is better than long winded, regardless of how well thought out and intentioned the post may be.

If only half the people have the concentration and ability to read it, something something I lost my train of thought. But you get my point I hope.

Some people don’t talk a lot. I have an alter who is mute and yet she’s one of the wisest people I know. On the other hand I have an alter who doesn’t shut up and he’s a ■■■■■■■ idiot… I love him he just says a lot of dumb ■■■■.

Length does not= thought I could ramble on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever do you see my point and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever

If I wanted to. Doesn’t mean there’s more thought or care.

not really, i think you think that the ones who write longwinded posts will be at an advantage but to be truthful i don’t think this is a problem,

most people don’t post long winded replies or thread and if they do they don’t do it much or don’t stick around for long as not a lot of people can read that much so not many replies,

I have told more than one poster to try and break down what they say into smaller parts or over a longer period of time to try and help them get their point across instead of putting it all down at once.
