UK Driving

I have had to notify the DVLA of my last episode of psychosis which was in February this year.

I’m on 10mg of Olanzapine and stable.

Will the DVLA suspend my license? Which I need for work.

if you are stable then prob not… i still got my drivers license but my pdoc told me not to drive anymore. I don’t know what your pdoc says about it?

He hasn’t said anything about it yet. DVLA are going to contact him.

Err - Why did you even bother telling them? Your psychosis may well be transient?

You just shot yourself in the foot mate.

In future - i would keep your gob shut.

Was being referred to Occupational Health by work to see if I can drive their vehicles. So thought it would come up either way.

Either way - you are volunteering WAY too much information.

I wake up some mornings with “Vicky” and her condesdencing bollox - but im not about to tell the Day Centre i make teas for that i was psychotic.

Come On.

Yeah should of waited to see what occupational health asked for first. Probably messed up and put my foot in it.

I just got my license back recently, lost it because of grand mal seizures. But my neurologist was well aware that I have schizophrenia, and I still got my license back. This is in Canada of course

Hopefully it works out for you

Its actually quite honourable mate that you are so blatantly honest - but it aint gonna do you much good in the long run.

Most people are not so understanding like this forum - You mention “voices” and “psychosis” and most people are gonna judge you mate x

Yeah definitely a lesson in volunteering information, never again.

Just thought they’d ask as work were aware, as I took time off for my last and second episode.

I lost my license for two years but it’s up to the doctors to fill out a form as to whether you get it or not

If you get hospitalised then you cannot drive in the uk for 3 months!

Luckily was just an A and E admission. Most likely going to loose my license though

It depends what kind of relationship you have with your doctor

Don’t know my Doctor, but have a good relationship with the consultant psychiatrist who’s also down on the form.

The GP won’t touch it with a barge pole if you have a pdoc.

He will likely be the one responsible for saying yes or no

I’d get ahead of this issue and deal with it before he gets the form - otherwise you’ll worry about it!

Definitely, I’ve got an appointment with the CPN next week so will try with her. She’s not very helpful though, so may have to ask to speak with him himself.

I go around my CPN and call the pdoc secretary.

They’re pretty good at making him aware of things

My CPN ignores 90% of what you say to him, and forgets half of what does sink in. Very frustrating!

Sounds exactly the same as mine except she couldn’t care less. I was delusional for six weeks and she was telling my family I was fine and to give me space lol.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but now you probably won’t get it. I can’t get mine and I’ve been stable quite some time. I just accept that here in UK with a diagnosis of sz I’ll never be able to drive.

Sorry to hear that. I just got my letter also. I need to declare and renew my license too.
