Uh oh... got approved!

Not sure if I’m quite so happy about it but I just got approved for my first credit card. Starting out with a $1000 credit line.
I’ve already had my PayPal Credit line increased and I’ve maxed it out (of course).
I figure if I’m careful and do things correctly, I can work on my dismal F credit score.
But I’m wondering if this is just another Pandora’s Box.

I tried to get a 1000 dollar credit card recently but the bank said no. I have no credit history, just some student debt. Try to pay it off as you spend and you should be ok.

Only do small purchases. And pay it back! It’s a slippery slope if you’re not careful

The bank keep offering to extend my overdraft - saying i can borrow upto £2500,
But nah - i would have a field day on amazon if i had that.

Paid off my credit card - Vultures called Vanquis @ 69% interest.
Never again.

Glad you got a line of credit - just dont go mad on it.

69% interest? Lol.

I think there are regulations in the states to keep that from happening. The most I’ve been offered is like 27%

Yeah they specialise in poor credit, with the line that they will improve your credit rating. They are part of Provident - a door step lending company.

I should have known better. I had them tho - I complained and had the interest frozen!

No ■■■■? I think the highest interest credit cards charge here I think is 20%.

I used to have good credit but what my ex husband and I did was only buy stuff on credit that we could afford to pay cash for then immediately pay the balance. So I’d buy a sweater then the same day I’d go online and pay the credit card balance. Definitely don’t live beyond your means. And I hear people go into debt during the holidays. Even when I had the good job I didn’t do that.

There was no spending mortgage money or the light bill money on Xmas presents. Just ain’t gonna happen.

I never really agreed with credit cards to be honest. I always thought it was best to save up the money, that way you dont pay interest.

dont use more than 10% of your available credit and always pay it off as soon as the bill comes in for it.

I have a lot of cards, but they are there for different reasons. One is CareCredit for extra things like eye glasses/contacts or vet bills (and boy did it come in handy this year!); another is for emergencies like needing a new transmission, and another is a “just because” card with only a $500 limit on it. Mine are maxed out right now, but I always pay them off with our income tax return. I’ve put a new savings plan into place (I love budgeting, seriously.), and I’m hoping we won’t have to use them as much next year. I want 0 debt. I hope your card helps you with your credit, and definitely be careful how much you spend. As a spending connoisseur, it’s best to spend money you have than money you don’t.

unfortunately, 1000 for college doesn’t last very long

I have over $30,000 in credit card debt. Use it wisely.
