A figure that shocks absolutely 0 women. Raise your hand if you’ve been harassed by your Uber driver :raised_hand:

I now refuse to get in one alone.

I totally agree. It’s a real problem for women. I hope they find a better way of doing background checks and character references. It’s necessary at this point. I don’t want my girls using this at all

Admittedly, it’s also a problem with traditional taxis, at least the ones I’ve been in.

I take a taser with me when ubering. It’s scary sometimes.

Half of the sexual assaults were against passengers, and half of the sexual assaults were against drivers.

Also why I’d never choose to drive for them. Getting in cars with strangers remains a risky activity, even when there’s an app for it.

As an Uber driver I carried a knife in my car, then pepper spray when I realized I had no knife training

Don’t Uber rides have cameras in them? If they can prove sexual assault has occurred they could levy a fine.

I have never been in an Uber and hope that I never have to use one. I’d trust a taxi over an Uber because they have to have credentials. I have only ridden in a Taxi with my mom, though, and I was very, very young.

In many states it’s illegal to video record people without their consent.

In my state it’s one party consent. Uber drivers can record the cabin.

And that was all just when Bill Cosby was free and didn’t have a car.

I have never knowingly been sexually harassed or assaulted in my life, so I can’t really say I have valid understanding of it. I use uber and could never imagine not having it as an option, taxi services are very expensive and I don’t have a car right now. If it’s a problem they should fire the drivers.

@agent101g it’s only half the drivers. The other half is rapists summoning ubers and then attacking the drivers.

I’ve also had a bad experience with an Uber. It was a male and he kept asking me for my number and if I was looking for anybody. He was coming on heavy and I felt scared if I got too strict with him he’d take me somewhere and hurt me, as we live in a rural area in some parts. I kept my cool and just nervously laughed at his advances until he dropped me off where I needed to go. Good thing i was going to an appointment otherwise, I’d be afraid to go home and he’d know where I lived. I called a friend to come get me afterwards. Be safe out there.

Holy ■■■■ that really happens? People are awful.

Background checks on drivers or firing drivers does nothing to touch that part of the problem. I kinda don’t want my mom to drive for uber now, she has done it in the past for holidays.

Star Sister and I had an Uber driver harass us on our way home. We were afraid to report him because he knew our home address. We just kept our cool and politely smiled and nodded as he ranted at us about right wing nonsense (pretty sure he thought we were a lesbian couple, we get that all the time)

@agent101g wow life is really different when you’re raised as a guy, isn’t it? I couldn’t imagine those thoughts not immediately being obvious, but we have had this fear and caution instilled in us from childhood.
