TW Child sexual abuse and sz

Can child sexual abuse cause sz and not feeling emotions? I was sexually abused at 5-6y.o. I don’t experience flashbacks or traumatizing memories but its hard for me to talk about it to a psychologist. I told my parents but they just ignored me saying I was delusional which isn’t true. I also told one pdoc but he just ignored me. Idk what to do and idk if my sz was caused by that.

I have read articles before that have said that childhood abuse and I think sexual abuse as well can increase the risk of schizophrenia and other psychosis’s. I’m not sure personally though because I consider sz to be more of a brain disease. I’m just stating what I have read.

But cant ptsd and trauma change brain chemicals?

Yeah, I suppose it can. I’m not sure that I am really qualified to answer that question with any certainty.

Yes trauma can change brain chemicals. I’m sorry your parents disregarded this and didn’t show you support. I am also sorry this happened to you.

I’ve always considered stressors to be a trigger for sz and not the root cause. I think you have to have the predisposition for sz in order for those triggers to bring it out.

Just like some people can smoke pot and not have it effect them, others can have it trigger sz and psychosis.

But as @anon63380492 said, I believe that trauma can change brain chemicals and can even change your brain over the long term. I’m just not so certain that it can cause sz. It may be a trigger though. IDK, even scientists and doctors don’t know the cause of sz for sure.

I think It can trigger it. I mean it’s one of the most traumatic things a person can go through

I know lots of people who were sexually abused. Some are borderline, some are histrionic, and some have DID. It’s clearly not good for children, but it alone doesn’t seem to cause SZ. Perhaps the gaslighting is relevant though?

It’s a general risk factor for all mental illnesses. And it’s a pretty significant risk factor. I don’t think you can say that your sz was definitely caused by that, but it’s probably a reasonable assumption that it contributed to it.
