Trying out Geodon

Hey all, I am trying out Geodon. I’m on 120mg per day. If you’ve been on it can you answer a few questions:
Can you take it with liquid calories or does it need to be all solid food?
How long after eating can you take it?

Thanks

You’re supposed to take it when you eat food. When I was in the hospital, it was distributed just before dinner was served. My prescription bottle said, “take with food.” So, I’m assuming it’s meant to be taken with solid food.

Yeah I think you are supposed to take it with solid food.

I take it in the morning and at night it works for me. I take it after dinner at night right after a good meal but I don’t eat breakfast.

I take it on an empty stomach in the mornings and it still works. I know it works because I used to take it all at night and it definitely didn’t work then.

But you are supposed to take it with at least 500 calories.

Okay thanks!! What if say 400 calories are solid and 100 are from milk or protein drink? Or if some of the calories are syrup? I guess I can be my own scientist on this as I tried these today

I’m pretty sure that it’s ok if some of your calories doesn’t come from solid food.
100 liquid calories on top of the 400 solid food calories should be fine

I agree with @Wave. It sounds fine.

Hey all, I got on Geodon and told my doctor about the insomnia. He was like hurt that I didn’t follow his exact tapering schedule and that I needed to reinstate Olanzapine for insomnia. The psych doctor from the research center said I need more time for the Geodon to work. We’re bumping up the Geodon from 120 to 160mg per day. It’s been a week on 120mg. I’m on 10mg olanzapine for now as well. My paranoia has improved but I truly wish Geodon will work for it.

I slept well on Geodon. It made me sleepy within an hour of taking it. I hope it helps you.

I have also wondered the same question with my medication. You would really have to ask the pharmaceutical companies. Also distribution of carbs/protein/fats may or may not matter. Fiber will also play a role.

I went back to 15mg olanzapine due to the insomnia, irritability, and a paranoia.

I used Geodon for 20 years. For most people it’s a blissful meds because that it doesn’t cause much weight gain. I had a bad feeling on Geodon, but got help from another antipsychotic namely Seroquel 900 mgs.
Now I’ll answer your question.
how much Geodon took I 160 -240 mgs.
It must be taken twice aday because of the short halflife 12 hours.
I took it twice aday 80 mgs + 500 kcal * 2 dayli.
I used fatty solid food.

Hey all, I started to reduce my dose of olanzapine again but more slowly (drop 2mg every two weeks). I’m currently on 160mg Geodon and 11mg olanzapine. It’s been 4 days at 11mg olanzapine and I’ve had Intrusive thoughts/paranoia about neighbors and anger towards my mom. I’ve tried inositol to help with the intrusive thoughts/paranoia but testing to see if it truly helps. I don’t think I can live with the ocd about neighbors much longer as I had this last time I reduced my dose and it’s weighing on my heart. I start to think about them and then I’ll hear them talking outside but I can’t make out what they’re saying so I’m obsessed that they’ve caught me my compulsion is to think about my immediate surroundings and not them.

If you read this, does it seem like the Geodon is not a good fit or is it more olanzapine withdrawl symptoms that I need to suffer through for a bit? Thanks

Are you taking it twice a day and eating enough with it? Problem with Geodon is it wears off fast.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I take 80mg Geodon with 500 calories twice a day, noon and 6pm.

Getting off Geodon after 20.years of usage was the hardest thing I ever have done in my life.
But now to come back to the topic. I don’t know why but all the pines has allways removed my intruitive thoughts and I’m currently on 900 mgs of Qutiapine( Seroquel). Olanzapine ( Zyprexa) did that as well. I’ll recoment to come slowly down in Olanzapine or go on anothet pine. If you don’t like to be on multiply antipsychotics you could substitute Olanzapine with the antidepressiva Mirtzapine (Remerone a pine as well).

Thanks @columbus. I have a feeling Quietiapine would work well. However, my reason for switching aps is to reduce metabolic effects and prolactin and improve sexual functioning. I think quetiapine is very similar in that regard. I tried mirtazapine and Vraylar together and had bad nightmares, visual hallucinations and homicidal thoughts. Not A bad idea to try mirtazapine with Geodon though

Well, just realized there’s no such thing as ocd withdrawl symptoms. So either the Geodon is causing ocd or not doing its job to stop it. Either way, it seems like it’s not the right drug for me.

Geodon worsens my OCD so I take Seroquel with it.

Dang man. What dose of seroquel do you take?
