Treatment resistant- Need a new anti-psychotic

Hi, 34 years of age, male paranoid schizo- been on a lot of different meds(haldol, zyprexa, paxil, abilify, klonopin, others) but currently on closaril, seroquel, propranerol, Anti pyschotics dont work no bad side effects but not working. Need a new med reccomendation- i currently suffer from delusions, though broadcasting, behavior commentary and bad anxiety. I feel like everyone is watching me, and tv talks about me. I am going to try a new pyschiatrist. What meds are you on and have been on. I don’t know why I still have bad symptoms- I’ll try anything!

I have no positive symptoms on Risperdal but better ask your Dr maybe all you need is an increase in Clozapine dosage.

You have 2 options - try increasing clozapine

OR

try risperidone and amisulpride. They are good for positive symptoms.

My doc says I’m on enough closaril (200 am/25 pm/400 pm)

I remember being on around 1200 mg seroquel, know only on 200-300 daily. doc doesnt seem to get that i need more

Vraylar worked for me. I didn’t do well or try Clozaril well enough. I had NMS from a bad doctor who put me on 2 other APs while on Clozaril at high doses plus a crap other meds. Ended up in ICU for a few weeks.

I take zyprexa which helps me sleep at night as well as turning off voices and stopping delusions. Risperdal also worked for me. Abilify did nothing.

Vraylar and Caplyta are new. I was pretty resistant myself until I found Zyprexa, which finally helped me greatly.

It sounds like you are on a heavy enough dosage of meds. Staying on a dose like 1200mg seroquel is not something that is viable long term, so I would focus getting to another medication rather than doing megadoses of something that should work at a much lower dose.

Also focus on getting your act together any way you can. The medicines are helpful, but you have to do part of the work yourself. Try to set yourself up in a safe environment, especially in your own home. If you are afraid or paranoid try to do what you can to make your home more secure so you decrease your paranoia, like getting a extra lock on your door, getting curtains for more privacy, etcetera. If there are some objects in your home that trouble you, get rid of them or replace them with something else. Your home is your domain and you are entitled to feel safe there.

If media makes you uncomfortable or triggers your paranoia try to stay away from it. Replace it with radio, audiobooks, reading, crossword puzzles, music you are comforable with etcetera.

i was treatment resistant and for me the combination risperdal consta 50mg 2 weekly and clozapine daily worked. Maybe you can try risperdal in combination with your clozapine. and who knows maybe then they can down your clozapine then a bit too.
