Traumatic brain injury and psychosis

I have a friend who had sz-like symptoms but the doctor told her she cannot have a mental illness like sz because her brain was injured (traumatic brain injury). She suffered a life-threatening accident and as a result she had a lot of surgeries.

What an amazing friend she is.

It’s interesting however that a trauma to the head can cause sz-like symptoms.
Nonetheless she endured a lot and I’m proud of her.

What part of her brain was 3ffect3d?

My first doctor said that about me. The next dxed me with sz, and the third switches that to sza.

I had a brain tumour two years before sz diagnosis.

I had traumatic brain injury

I’m not sure. She has PTSD because of this so I don’t ask about this to her.

She suffered a car accident when she was young and she had surgeries because of this. Her injuries were severe.

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing well.

@Greenmind
I see. Are you doing ok now?

I see. Do you perhaps believe that you were misdiagnosed?

Yeah im ok thank you :slight_smile:

People that have a traumatic brain injury are 1.6 times more likely to develop schizophrenia.

Definitely not. I was part of a study, and I had an MRI that shows structural abnormalities in my brain consistent with schizophrenia. I was unlucky enough to have both.

When I had my initial psychosis I had a near suicide attempt where I did some harm to my body. I may have caused some brain damage and it developed into full blown psychosis 2 years later. :frowning:

I’m doing fine apart from the sz! :laughing: Tumour was hopefully benign.
