I got a traffic-ticket a year ago while I was driving on the freeway. I was looking for the exit sign for the street I had business on and I finally saw the sign but I was almost past it and so at the last minute I swerved sharply to my right to get off the freeway.
But unfortunately I didn’t see a car that was to the right of me and a little behind me so I almost hit him. Even more unfortunate is that the other car was a cop car. So he pulled me over and came up to my car and I showed him my drivers license, registration and my proof-of -insurance I.D. (It’s against the law in California to drive without proof that you are insured in your car).
He wrote me a ticket and then let me go. Well, I called the phone number on the ticket after a couple of weeks to pay the fine but the clerk at the court building told me the officer who pulled me over had not filed the ticket with the court so she told me to call back in a month to check if the officer had entered the ticket into the system.
I would have been happy to just pay the stupid fine and get it over with but instead the ticket was in limbo and i couldn’t pay it or go to court about it or enroll in traffic school until that cop put it into the courts computer. To make a long story short, I called the court on the first of every month for 4 months to check on the status of my ticket.
Finally she told me if a year went by without the ticket entered into the courts system that they would dismiss it. So I called every month for a year. Today was the date that that the ticket expired so I did not have to pay a cent. The fine for a speeding ticket California is over $300.00, I’m not sure what the fine is for almost running a cop off the road, lol.
