I got a $95.00 parking ticket last Saturday night.
I was visiting a friend and he had two cars in his driveway so I could only park on the road out front. I stayed overnight as we had a few drinks and I didn’t want to drive.
The by-law is there so cars don’t interfere with the city snow plows. But it didn’t snow overnight, and my car wasn’t bothering anybody so I’m going to beef it in court.
I’ll get a summons to appear within 3 months. Wish me luck.
It really pissed me off…ticketing people on Christmas weekend. Especially since I did the right thing and didn’t drink and drive. And where was I supposed to park?
If I lose in court, I’m still going to refuse to pay and tell them I’ll spend a weekend in jail if it comes to that. Yes, I’m that upset.
95 dollar ticket is a lot, I remember I once got a traffic parking ticket in Lisbon, Portugal and it was just 20 euros, took a lot of time to find a Place where this ticket could be paid …
A couple weeks ago I was walking to my gym and a girl crossed an intersection when it was not blinking white.
By some bad luck, just across her was a policeman so he gave her a ticket. It is really strict like that.
lol. I did something like that over a seat belt ticket once, while it worked in getting me out of the ticket it got me on the radar of authorities in a small town. Like they say, “choose your battles wisely”…anyways good luck to you sir… I salute you
My one time at traffic court was horrifying. First I went through a metal detector, and a bunch of people laughed (Probably at my grotesqueness), then I go into the wrong courtroom, and the officer says that my charge is a criminal one, asks the judge in there in jest if he should arrest me. They point me to a room with a huge amount of people where I wait at least half an hour. Then finally I just have to say a few words to the judge requesting it be dismissed or something like that, since I paid the fine. Then I get to go. What a seemingly useless exercise, but I guess it keeps our society moving?
I should include that I did all this while the medication had just run out and was having serious problems coping. Was one of the biggest nightmares of my life. And it turns out to be nothing in the end.
Maybe the policy is that there is no parking there anytime. It seems that the city would not want people guessing whether its going to snow or not. Weather is unpredictable and you would have cars parked there all the time fighting the odds and gambling on whether its going to snow or not. It would be a mess to enforce that way.
I ran into parking problems for the last two years.I was in a big city and parking was only allowed on certain streets at certain hours. On my own street the college kids took up all the curbside parking about 90% of the time so i had to park my car four blocks away. Even if against all odds I found a spot on my own street, there were signs posted that said no parking between 1:00 am and 6:00 am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so the street cleaning trucks could clean the streets without any interference. I got quite a few tickets for violating that law. because I kept forgetting to move my car.
