My doctor has ordered me to abruptly stop all medications that Iām on. Iāve never had this happen before and Iām worried I will relapse without the mood stabilizers.
Iāve quit my medications quite a few times before, but never because the doctor has ordered me to quit them. My platelet levels are extremely low and they believe that one of the medications might be the cause.
Wow, thatās wild that your dr would stop all of your meds like that. I mean, I get that they want to know the cause of a low platelet count, but damn. I hope you hold up okay.
I agree with @everhopeful, you should be in a hospital for such a thing. Honestly, if I were you, and I later ended up in a hospital because my symptoms returned, I would ask for a different dr upon discharge.
Itās actually a team of doctors. I think thereās a chance that I might have some rare type of bone marrow cancer so theyāre trying to determine if the meds are the cause as quickly as possible. I guess I shouldnāt worry about it but itās hard not to.
Okay, I suppose thatās a little different. I donāt blame you for being worried. I have to ask, though, is it a team of psychiatrists, a team of regular doctors, or a mix of both?
Hematologist, endocrinologist and my primary care doctor currently. I was in the process of changing psychiatrists because I did not like the last one that I saw. I requested some emergency antipsychotics in case I felt like I was going to have an episode and she refused to give me anything. I see the new psychiatrist at the end of this month.
Your new psychiatrist might hit the roof when you tell him or her about this, but I suppose cross that bridge when you get to it. Either way Iām sure he or she will discuss these matters with the other doctors.
Iām sorry. That is incredibly stressful. I hope they can get everything figured out soon, and itās nothing serious. Take it very easy these next few weeks, and be gentle on yourself. And donāt hesitate to go to the hospital with if you start to feel a relapse coming on.
