I’d honestly ask the people at the registration center you go to about the learning assistance office and mention that you ARE learning disabled and MUST get your student assistant before you can complete all the paperwork necessary for your classes to begin. It may be hard to find a volunteer student at first, but you really need to let them know that you need the help. This is not a request, it’s the law for a real accredited school to have learning assistance programs for learning disabled students.
If they mention to you that this option isn’t available, you’re not in a real school at all.
If you’re doing online classes, you still have a chance to teleconference with a learning assistant.
If they say it’s too late to get one, they’re full of beans…don’t give up.
I say that you get on the bandwagon this morning and let them know how much you’re struggling…ALSO if you’re learning disabled and get your MD notes to the school you may be able to be reimbursed for dropping a class financially.
They work for YOU. Remember that and I’m not saying to throw a fit or put up demands but nip this crap in the butt, you need to have yourself represented and assisted in academia.
Find out if your school has a disabled student office. If they do, call or visit it and talk to them. Preferably visit in person. That’s the place to go. They will help you register, pick classes, arrange accommodation as @neveragain described. They might pay all your registration fees, and even maybe pay your tuition. At my schools office, I didn’t have to wait in long lines to register, I signed up for a class and payed all my fees right inside the an office with just me and a counselor. They might also help you with information about financial aid.
Thanks. I’m trying to minimize my stress with the whole process. I’ve been an anxious mess. I’m not sure I can do school but my goal is to get off disability and work again if I’m at all capable.@77nick77
I agree with most of the comments, it’s probably stress related. That tends to screw up my moods as well, the important thing is learning to balance that stress. While I understand wanting to finish your novella (I’m working on a novel myself) unless you have a deadline from a publisher maybe put it on hold while you work on your class? Or just do a little bit here and there when it comes to you, I know it can be hard to put writing aside when they say write every day…
You could try and explain to the place you volunteer that you’re taking a class and they might let you step down in the amount of days or hours you spend there if it will help reduce stress in your life…the most important thing is taking care of yourself. If you feel you can’t stop the class because it costs to much, focus on that one thing, when it’s done try and pick up the other things like writing and volunteering, or pick two of them that you find the least stressful.
Mental health is very important to keep in check, specially with things like depression because problems can snowball into an avalanche pretty quickly. You don’t have to disclose to anyone your reasons either, that is your own personal business and you can share only what you feel comfortable sharing.
Have you found any student aid lately? You also have to send in your paperwork to the school administration for your learning disability and student assistant.
Do you still feel awful while volunteering? A lot of times if I had to wake up I would feel horrible and like everything was too much, but when I’d actually go do the activity I’d feel ok and end up in a better mood than I would’ve been had I stayed home and isolated myself.
