Is getting a password manager for a laptop a good idea? I barely understand what it is but I got a huge article about it on my feed and it sounds like a good idea. The article recommended the best one for $36 a year. Is getting one worth the money?
Yes. I am required to have one but even if I was not I think it would be wise. You should have odd passwords made of numbers, letters and symbols. So many people have the same password for everything to avoid confusion. Those people are easy targets. Get a password manager and make your passwords random and long.
you could just come up with a code and change the word for each site/app you use
like for this website schizo111+++ and 111+++ would be the code you keep the same. But if your code got cracked then people could still guess your password from another site.
Still as long as your email and phone number are stored as security options I think you’d be safe
I use different passwords for every website and all my accounts. Is that safe enough so I would not need a password manager?
I have never once had an issue with people logging into my accounts. When passwords had less requirements I tended to use little phrases with a number or two words with a number. Then most sites REQUIRED you to use mixed case AND a number and sometimes a special symbol and each site has different usage of rules. I literally can’t remember beyond 5 passwords and I probably have 40 online accounts (low estimate). I just let firefox remember my account details for everything. I still know some of them but its hard. I wouldn’t feel comfortable needing to pay a company to keep my account details. I just let my browser do it locally for free.
I feel like you are far more likely to have your account access lost from phishing than someone brute forcing access.
Yeah defo, as long as you remember them. And have back up recovery emails/numbers
I’ve got about 100 online accounts so it helps to have a password manager. Im using a free one called bitwarden it’s good.
Yeah, the article I read recommended bitwarden at the best free password manager.
I wouldn’t recommend to actually buy a password manager due to most apps already have them included, like Firefox. Although you have the option to create and store a safe password for different websites on your phone.
I use this as well for both Windows and Linux.
Me too, I’ve got it on my phone as well.
Should you use a password manager? It’s tough to answer without knowing more details, such as… how many accounts you have, how you are currently storing your passwords, how strong your passwords are… and it’s probably not a good idea to post this information on a public forum.
I actually studied these for a temp job about a year ago. I tried one that I found to be the most beneficial, but the truth is that Google also has a password manager. I uninstalled the trial and just went back to using Google.
I suggest getting a small notebook and write your passwords their, also try not to use the same password to every account. Write them down and put it somewhere accessible and safe.
Just make your password boner69. Noone will ever guess it trust me.
