For one or two years I have not had the normal awakening feeling in the morning. I have to be forced to get up by something I schedule (and it is very hard), or else I don’t get up until after 12 hours of sleep. Secondly, in the evening if I don’t have much planned, I lay down and nap for two hours (about 7:00 to 9:00). I fight it some, but I just feel tired and all I want to do is lay down and nap.
Now that this problem is coming into focus, I am starting to think this may be due to my AP: Zyprexa 15 mg. I am going to ask my new psychiatrist when I see him in a month.
Or could this just be my sz and my aging?
I don’t feel tired at work or when I have something interesting to do.
12 hours is normal on zyprexa, but not getting up can be a depression or motivation symtom.
Sleeping in The evening i dont know.
I would wonder about depression also. Whenever I’m depressed I need in excess of 12 hours of sleep to feel satisfied. Even then I still feel tired. I think talking to your pdoc is a good idea.
Thanks for your feedback. I am now thinking it might be part of the negative symptoms of sz: lack of motivation. Or persistent depression.
Have your blood sugar checked. I was on zyprexa when I was diagnosed with diabetes 2. I was taken off of it, and my A1C returned to normal.
Just going by experience with zyprexa.
I know how you feel. I take Clozapine, and it is also fairly sedating. If i’m forced to get up earlier than naturally waking, i find it hard to stay awake unless it is something quite pressing. If i’m left to wake up on my own, it is usually 9 hours before i wake up. Not as bad as your 12 hours though.
I sleep 12 hours a night and also take a nap. When I miss my shot I sleep less.
I sleep about 12 hours a day on Zyprexa as well
All I did was add some decent exercise. I went from sleeping 10 hours a day on 10 mg of zyprexa to 8 or less. No other changes and some days if tired I’ll have a 20 minute nap too. Still. I feel bummed out sleeping too much so I’m happy with those results. Start exercising. It’s simple, cheap and has proven benefits.
i’m willing to to give exercise a go. thanks for the tip rogueone!
I am on low doses of zyprexa.Waking up is depressing…I normally drink a coffee or hit my vape to kick start my day.
I take a pretty high dose, 30 mg, and I sleep about 10 hours at night. Zyprexa can be sedating.
