Thinking about moving to Virginia

My mom’s aunt has a place in the countryside of Virginia and we’re thinking about moving there maybe next year. We wouldn’t have to pay her anything (just take care of it) so it would help finances a lot. Washington is beautiful and all but I could use some friendlier people and a change of scenery.

Im from Virginia! It is beautiful there. Depending on where youre moving you may have to drive a bit to see a good psychiatrist. The small towns around VA have charm and that small town feel. Its a good state to live.

From Washington State? That’s a long haul.

I have lived in Virginia a couple of times. I was stationed in Norfolk in the navy and Quantico in the Marines. Brrr. Cold.

Are the people in Va as friendly as the folks in WV? I lived there briefly as a kid but I don’t remember. We lived in Clifton Forge. Then in my senior year in high school we lived in Low Moor.

I think the people in VA are nicer than those in WV. At least up in the moutains of WV. VA is more accepting. I grew up in northern VA, right outside of DC. And lived as an adult in central VA, which was wonderful.

Oh wow :hushed:. Yeah. I didn’t know that. I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I’m shy but friendly (if that makes sense). I guessed everyone in WV was friendly.

My husband and i lived in WV for about a year with our baby, a good 8 years ago. We’re a biracial family. We’d always get looks and rude service when we went out. From both sides! A little black boy once pointed at us and said “whats that black boy doing with that white lady?”. It was so rude. But in VA no one paid us any mind. Good customer service for the most part. Friendly neighbors for the most part. It was nice. Now we’re in FL and its like a mix of the two, lol

That’s awful ! I guess I didn’t notice. I have cousins who are biracial (black &white) I’m Native American and white, my daughter is half Ecuadorian (Hispanic), I have other distant cousins who are Mexican American. There you have it lol :joy:

My daughter Sparrow is the one in the middle.

That’s good to hear! I’ve spent some time in Culpeper as my great aunt lives there. Culpeper definitely has that charm to it. How is the traffic? I bet there isn’t much unless your by DC?

I live in northern Virginia, have lived here my whole life except for a couple years I spent in Oakland, California. It’s okay if you can deal with living in a swing state. You’re not gonna like the governor half the time if you’re on either side. Other than that things are okay. We are close to DC. Quality of life dropped a bit when they legalized sports book gambling thanks to all the ads.

We get all four seasons and the crime/homelessness rates are low so that’s good. I spent 30 years in Fairfax County (most expensive county in the state IIRC) and now live in Woodbridge, home of the fast food tax hike.

I’m not politically inclined so I wouldn’t mind that! I know the weather is kinda polarized. I remember intense lightning storms out in Culpeper and in DC as a kid. We hardly get lightning in Seattle. Crime is not too crazy here either. First time I’ve heard of Woodbridge. Looks like you’ve got some pretty coastal nature there.

I live in between VA, WV, and MD. The West virginians sound so sweet on the radio ( NPR ). I don’t like the heat and I don’t like the cold. But we have long Springs here.

Dang, those are some interesting shaped borders there between those states! Compared to Seattle, it looks like Virginia has warmer springs and falls. Often winter blends into those seasons here. It would be nice to just have a taste of winter and then get back to 60+ days like in VA.

I’m sorry people were rude to you guys because of race. That doesn’t sound fun. Come to Seattle, people here are accepting. What part of Florida are you in?
