I used to make wallets and belts when I was a boy. I was pretty good at it. I love the feel of malleting in details on the fresh leather. Anybody here do leather work?
That is somehing I have always wanted to do. My brother was good at this and made leather protecters for knives, my kalidescope, credit card cases, and lots more.
I love the feel and smell of leather.
Did that as a kid, too. Haven’t thought of it for YEARS. Yeah, that could be fun.

tandy leather has beginner kits. I’m going to get the $80 deluxe kit. Excited. I really need something to do during the day and I still do artwork every art class but this is something that I could do at home.
I still have my 2 leather bracelets I made in Jr. high school back in 1977.
They had stars punched in them, gosh I loved wearing them, have to dig them backout and wear them.
This is making me happy just thinking about it!
Potential moneymaker!
thanks bridgecomet. Actually if I could just make enough gifts for Christmas that is what I’m shooting for. I wouldn’t know how to sell the items ?
Flea Markets. Garage sale. E-Bay, Craigslist. Some laundromats and stores have bulletin boards for people to put up ads.
I work on an Army base and I see the soldiers taking up ads in the break rooms to sell anything from a dining table/chair set to face and body massages. You might pick-up some extra pocket change.
Yep-and people are doing these little pop-up stores now…
I make my own simple belts. No tooling - I like picking out the buckle. I have a leather bag that needs the strap lengthened. It goes over in my dim head - how to do it.
