Im unmedicated. I’m honestly terrified of medication. That and I’ve been so use to using alcohol to solve my problem that even if I were to have medication, I’d have a hard time due to alcohol. For the past few days all I’ve been seeing are bugs. Both flying and crawling, all around me. I’m terrified of bugs in general, so seeing them on a daily basis is making my hallucinations worse. Does anyone have any advice on how to calm this down.
See a pdoc soon…ask ur family to help u…!!!
Yes.
See a psychiatrist and allow him/her to prescribe an Antipsychotic for you.
There are meds that can help with the bugs, and alcohol abuse too.
Once I got on meds my urge to drink alcohol went away.
Although I did drink the other night but I made myself. I didn’t really have an urge to do it.
Maybe if you got on meds you wouldn’t have an urge to drink. It’s worth a shot, because meds are the only thing that will make the bugs go away.
There’s coping skills to deal with hallucinations but I don’t know what they are, sorry. I don’t hallucinate anymore since I got on meds.
You know the answer to this better than us.
If you don’t take meds that a pdoc has Rx’d you, and you drink despite knowing it isn’t good for you, then seriously, you aren’t going to listen to a thing any of us say.
What were you hoping for us to say anyway?
I found this:
There’s this too:
I’ve genuinely been trying to ease up drinking. I’ve been doing better with it. But obviously not enough to be prescribed the meds they’re wanting to put me on.
Tbh even if I wasn’t an alcoholic. Medication makes me unnerved. I’ve seen what it did to my best friend who’s also schizophrenic. He just became more violent. And cruel…
Can you tell me what it’s called ? I’m new to this. I’ve just came out about it To my family and therapist a year ago. After about 12 years of keeping it to myself.
Personally I’d be more terrified of being off the meds than on.
Being off meds and drinking alcohol doesn’t seem to get you where you want to go- does it?
Why not try something different if you want something different and ditch the alcohol and get on the meds?
Doesn’t seem like it could be much worse than where you are.
My doc gave me one option. Quit drinking entirely before he prescribes me anything unfortunately.
I may change docs. He does nothing but judge my activities. And give me altimatives with 0 help or advice
I’ve attempted to quit drinking multiple times, and try new things. But, I guess due to the addiction. Being without it just makes me very violent. My doctor wants me to be 3-4 months sober before he even thinks about prescribing me medication.
Someone on this thread said there was medication that helped with alcohol addiction, if I knew what that was, I’d gladly take it.
He must consider your drinking a pretty serious problem if he won’t even prescribe you meds unless you quit drinking. I told them I drank a handful of alcoholic beverages a week and the doc prescribed me meds no problem.
I think @Goyankees is on something for alcohol addiction?
Sounds like the best advice he could give.
Why change him unless it’s to try to get one to say what you want to hear.
You have been given the chance to improve, but it will take effort on your part.
To be completely honest. My doctor is a jerk.
I feel like he dislikes me as a person, when I told him in confidence all the things I’ve done in my life to make myself cope with schizophrenia. All he does is give me ultimatums, interrupts me when I’m expressing myself, with judging and at times yells at me saying the things I do will eventually endanger/ kill me etc…
Sounds like he’s worried about the path you’re on. You need to quit drinking.
Looks like drug choices for alcoholism are antabuse, naltrexone, and campral.
You thinking he dislikes you as a person is probably just your paranoia kicking in. Try to ignore it.
Appearance says alot to docs. If you look grungy or have poor hygiene they will definetly form an option thst you are harmful to yourself. Always try to look presentable and trying to be optimistic.
Just think these docs see people with all kinds of issues including issues caused by destructive life styles. Play by their rules for a little bit and they will grow to respect you and give you a little bit more benefit of a doubt.
