The word ‘dude’ is dead. Long live ‘bro’

‘Bro’ is very much part of the zeitgeist. Everyone says it. No one says dude’ anymore. ‘

I like ‘bro’ though (although I think ‘brother’ has more gravitas).

‘Dude’ did well and he has retired to green sunny pastures. ‘Bro’ has taken the reins!

You guys crack me up!

Working with college students I can attest to the fact that they all now say “bro”.

I saw some reality from the states where the cops adress the purpetrators as bro after pulling them over.

Then they say back, “I’m not your relative sis!” Jk

How come these terms (of friendly endearment) are all masculine?

Egg is both masculine and feminine. Egg is eggnostic.

I was actually gonna address that point. I regularly say ‘man’ to women. Like ‘how’s it going man?’

I think ‘man’ is a privileged term that fits a lot of genders. I would say the same of ‘dude’

But you are right @Moonbeam

I think the tendency to use masculine gendered terms is a carry over from olden times.

“Bestie” is gender neutral and I see people use it all the time on TikTok.
