This is probably accurate. My brother and I are similar a lot, but he has a higher IQ and had less severe traumatic events. He didn’t develop schizophrenia, and is doing pretty well. Because we’re 4 years apart I trust him a lot with understanding me. He’s so honest and willing to explain things even when I feel defensive. Even as a teen, he was the only one who could reach me.
Sure but just because schizophrenic people are lower pre and post morbid IQ doesn’t mean that IQ is protective. It might just mean that you have for example experienced less trauma which lowers IQ and what you are indirectly measuring is truma and not IQ. I get that IQ helps you to make sense of the world so it’s not surprising but how are they drawing these conclusions.
I don’t love the premise of this.

whatever IQ I had before I got sick I lost when my brain was damaged by psychosis for a full year. now I have trouble reading…can’t concentrate so I can’t work…things like that…
I’ve always heard that people with high IQ have a higher probability on sz but a milder path in the illness. I could go look for those studies but I’m feeling lazy 
I had a brief look and the above study is based on old data from Sweden. I don’t know if it’s that convincing against conventional wisdom.
Very interesting, thank you! It’s curious that he described a study performed in 2014. I wonder if it has been followed-up somehow, or discussed/mentioned in subsequent scientific papers by other authors.

Having a reasonably good brain has don’t me much good . No degree. Never had a paid job. The bullying related trauma and the subsequent paranoia and severe social anxiety put paid to that.
In my opinion, most people never even question how smart they are and are totally unaware of their own limitations too.
Further, a lot of SCZ dump on themselves for being dumb but if you’re even looking in the mirror and questioning your intelligence, you’re a leg up on a typical person . . .
Looking at the designers of that billion-dollar sub that just disappeared. It’s lost because no one bothered to put a $30 Apple Airtag in it . . .
I personally think my iq is likely to be average.
