How to eat healthily while still enjoying your food? Eating shouldn’t be a miserable experience.
I eat potatoes about 2-3 times per week and I no longer have diabetes. My A1C is in the completely normal range
I quit all deep fried food some time ago and I don’t feel deprived. Toss fresh tater chunks in a bit of EVOO, a kiss of seasoning salt, and roast at 350F for 45 minutes. Heaven. Just limit the taters and eat with a light green salad.
I’m going to start following your advice on diet. Scale hit 240 today ;-;
This is the main thing I follow…
I keep white carbs to a minimum, only two or three times a week. It’s tough to get used to the whole grains at first. After a while you eat a white bread product and it’s just so flavourless. My body has adjusted and craves the healthier items now, but it took over a year.
I switched to multigrain bread recently.
I like fruit but can’t always eat it fast enough, so I’m planning to get some canned fruit with sucralose.
Its about making accurate substitutes.
Instead of chips, baked strips of vegetables (carrot/parsnips)
Instead of a burger, breadless burger with extra (and interesting) salad.
I don’t buy bread or chips or rice and just have extra vegetables instead.
I do miss it sometimes. I bought some garlic bread last week, and at Christmas time. But over an entire year I think that’s okay.
I like chips sometimes but it gets old quick
I can’t get my head around a breadless burger, tbh. I can compromise on a whole wheat bun. Mainly I enjoy a burger with bun, but much less often than I used to. Have gone from every couple of days to every couple of months.
I like salad, but it doesn’t like me. I have problems digesting it. I’m not exactly sure how long that’s been the case, but do think it’s age related. A major problem for me re a healthy diet is the very common insistence on having lots of beans and pulses. For me more than smallish amounts at any one time is enough for me. Chickpeas and lentils are a big NO . I don’t like the mouth feel of couscous.
Provide me with a healthy alternative to the above that takes into account my limited culinary skills, and that would be a major step forward in my eating more healthily.
