The only med that works well for me is the one that causes the most weight gain

what do i do am i supposed to just hear voices and be unfunctional and suicidal and never leave my house or fat and depressed and have the irresistable urge to eat every thing in sight

i think im going back on zyprexa i hope i dont gain as much weight as i did before since i am going on zyprexa zydis instead of regular zyprexa this time,

i am gonna be so sad if i gain alot of weight againbecause people will think i am just lazy and eat alot for fun and tell me to exercise and diet and it makes me really sad that alot more people nowadays is focused on getting in good shape and being fit and healthy and i have to take meds that do the opposite just so i can be sane

i really hope these studies and reviews are accurate and the zyprexa zydis doesnt give me the same appetite the regular zyprexa used to give me

Yep, I really feel your pain on this one, @sigarino. How is your mouth today?

I feel you. I’m sorry you’re stuck with this choice. I did the same thing a few years ago. I tried all the atypicals and my last one was Saphris and it worked better than any before, but I was gaining weight like crazy. But it was mostly working so I just kept taking it. Then I realized that I had gained over 100 lbs in 6 months. It wasn’t worth it anymore. That was too much. I was in too much pain all the time from the sudden weight gain. Now I can’t get rid of it. But I did finally try haldol since all the atypicals are ■■■■ for me. And the haldol isn’t too bad with weight gain.

i wanted to try haldol or one of the other older meds asked my pdoc if i could a few days ago but he said it will give me horrible side effects and stuff so basically i can only go on atypical ap’s which i hate because almost all of them cause weight gain, i guess i rather be fat than suffer with psychosis forever

More information is always coming out and there is more and more evidence that old meds aren’t really any worse than newer meds. If you want to try haldol, advocate for yourself. Sometimes doctor’s can be stuck in their ways, but excessive weight gain is absolutely a to not take a med. If you want to appease her and try it for a month and see if you gain weight or not, there’s nothing wrong with that. Just remember, ultimately, it’s your body and you have the ultimate decision of what you take. (Unless you’re on a hold.)

zyprexa is my go too. Tried a couple more in abilify and risperdal but it’s a great drug for me.

I gained most on risperdal. Made me eat but it wasn’t just about eating. I suspect it works on other levels to make you gain weight.

First point! Take whatever med works for you and your symptoms. When your stable then work on weight.

It’s all about portion size and control. IT’s hard but you have to add serious exercise…you find a way!

It’s not easy…but if it works don’t cruel yourself! First things first…get rid of symptoms!!!
