I’m finding out I should have not stopped taking my Loxapine. Only problem is the Loxapine was causing sever TD and movement disorders. I don’t know what to try now, I’ve been on practically all the new generation APs, currently on a low dose of Geodon which is the only newer AP I’ve ever done well with. I’m going to speak to my Pdoc about all this in our next appointment but that’s not till June 12th. I hope I don’t have to go back on Loxapine, it worked wonders for my paranoia and psychosis but the side effects were terrible.
When I have a bad reaction to AP’s, like the TD you were experiencing, I get in touch with the doctor through their online portal and she adjusts for something different.
May be challenging in your case since there may be little others to try. But worth a try or a phone call to not have TD.
try generic prolixin…an older med…I love it.
Geodon is okay when it comes to side effects. I still have TD type of stuff but I take Cogentin and it works. Just make sure you take it on time with food the withdrawal of it is intense and positives return quickly. Geodon usually lasts 7 hours in my system.
@Mars I don’t get many side effects from Geodon but I just feel like it’s not very effective. Maybe I just need a stronger dose. I’m only on 40mg twice a day
The max dose is 80/80 so there is room to go up. How long have you been on it?
About 4 years now
Dont be afraid of that Geodon doesnt work. Maybe you just need a dose abou 40 mgs. I was on doses of geodon between 240 mg - 160 mg and that served mr well.
Now where my Schizophrenis had burned out I m on the road of recovery and I will very soon come down to 300 mg Qutiapine that is my target dose.
The reason that I stay on 300’mg qutiapine is that it masks TD.
I could go on a higher dose I’m just afraid it isn’t going to be enough
If you do not pose a danger to others or yourself there is no reason to make any medically changes.
I was on loxapine until the pharmacy could not longer obtain it. I am on a very expensive medicine called Lybalvi, which I get because I have Medicare and Medicaid. It is zyprexa combined with an appetite suppressant.
When I was on loxapine I would sleep four hours in the day and four hours at night. I have never had TD but a little, in over thirty years and like you I’ve been on everything except for the newest meds. Zyprexa gave me the ability to sleep which I lacked and now I can’t sleep without it. I remember just about everyday when I was on a higher dose I’d get so bored in the afternoon that I’d nap and as I was falling asleep I’d feel like I was on morphine.
Yes I remember the Loxapine shortage a few years ago. Thankfully the pharmacies have it back in stock now
