I got a little Asperger’s here. I know what you mean.
I was discharged from a hospital once while I was the pretty much the most psychotic I’ve been in my life and a complete danger to myself.
Treat em and street em.
Sometimes I think these people only care about their salary.
Well, if their profession gets as overwhelmed with details at work as mine does, I can certainly understand how things are missed. It’s not that they’re stupid, but you can only spread even the best of people so thin before mistakes start happening.
I can understand temporarily missing things due to being overworked but spread that over 40 years plus and it does smack of stupidity.
I can’t speak to that as I wasn’t there, but what if you had gotten an autism diagnosis? I have one. Have had it for years. Haven’t seen a single additional support because of it. Not one. So how would having a label with no support make things any different?
Can see your point as support here is patchy too. Nevertheless it would have been good to have people intelligent enough to realise everything can’t be attributed to a psychiatric dx. Also how do things change/improve if using the " Well there’s no additional support so let’s just ignore the problem" stance. ? Change should come through recognition of issues and the education that should go with it.
Also it makes ,dumb assed people less likely to be so quick to make ignorant, negative assumptions about you if they are aware of the issues/problems you have.
In AA they say if you’re in a conflict with another person, instead of getting in heated discussions driven by ego and self-will, they recommend just stepping back and thinking about the problem and to see your own part in it. You will find in many arguments or disagreements that it is often not one person who is totally wrong. Both sides have a part in the conflict.
A bit off topic, but you have quite a handful of followers on twitter. I might want to get into that, but have no idea how to attract followers so what’s the point?
As for the topic, I don’t know if labels or established psychiatric/psychological diseases are that helpful in treatment. Psychiatrists seem to give me meds because of symptoms, generally. Psychosis and paranoia got me on ap, depression got me on anti-depressant. Anxiety got me on a benzo for a while, before I just stopped taking it for fear that i’d get hooked.
Also, support groups are absolutely no help to me. I tend to have nothing absolutely nothing in common with the people that attend them. And it doesn’t help that with meds my symptoms are diminished.
Sorry bit of a ramble, not very helpful.
How do you see the followers
My understanding is those kinds of things are diagnosed in the U.K. now fairly quickly - at toddler stage for autism.
I just don’t think the NHS had provisions or the focus on these kinds of issues even going back to when I was younger in the 90’s.
I wouldn’t berate the mental health professionals. These people have to listen to some pretty horrific things, and deal with very difficult people with complex needs. I have full respect for them and a mental health worker to me - even though they get paid for it - are the best kind of people out there for their dedication to work in such a hard working environment.
Kudos to them
In general.most of them are mediocre. Or off on the wrong track.
intelligence notwithstanding, one may be terrible at doing what they are supposed to be doing effectively, with individual variation.
ineffectiveness may be a symptom of one either lacking the ability to apply what their acquired knowledge, or simply failing to do so for whatever reasob
Everybody makes assumptions about everyone all of the time. Humans suck that way.
Have you tried anything on your own since you’re aware of the problems? There are some good workbooks for higher-functioning autistics (you definitely qualifiy). Good place to start?
No, I’ve not tried anything on my own. I’m always wary of going solo with such things mainly because I doubt my ability to do it on my own. I would be grateful if you could give me the names of some of those workbooks.
Been posting around for recommendations on workbooks. No one has any.
Off to work, will try to find something this evening if I have time.
Okay, here’s one I own – it’s not bad at all:
Now off to work. Laterz.
Thanks. I see this is aimed at children. Is it suitable for a 61 year old adult ?
I found it somewhat helpful. You’ve been saying that you don’t want to take on too much, so maybe start small?
