The history, Russia, Vikings

I learned something new today. Vikings established settlements in Kiev hundreds of years ago and they called these settlements Ros and later this expanded to call all people in that region Rossia, so Russia was established by Vikings. In Finnish Russians are called ‘venäläiset’ which is close to ‘veneläiset’ meaning people with boats and ships, and probably meaning also Vikings. Something new I learned.

I have family in Russia. A long time ago a lot of germans settled on the Volga river and are now their own ethnic group I think. Not sure how many are left there.

I thought this was funny, Viking Russian …

Well, historians say that America was “discovered” by at least 9 or 10 peoples before Columbus ever got here. The Vikings were one of them. And even the term “discovered” when it comes to America is a misnomer as the land already was inhabited and had many societies that were more sophisticated than many countries in Europe or elsewhere at the time.
