I read awhile ago that there are two different kinds of schizophrenia: episodic-which consists of schizophrenia symptoms followed by remission followed by symptoms ad finitum, continuous- consists of symptoms where they are constant and fluctuate. I’ve had schizophrenia for three years now and it’s been pretty continuous for me. Good things
Sounds right. Many are set back
From brain changes from meds too.
I think there are several types of schizophrenia. You know some people get schizophrenia after age 40, for example?
Started as continuous and diminished to episodic.
I think psychosis is super diverse. There are people with schizophrenia, but there are people with psychotic depression, OCD with psychosis, PTSD with psychosis, and other neurodegenerative disorders produce acute psychosis as well. It just shows how diverse neuropsychiatric conditions can be.
I meant to say the there are two courses to which schizophrenia runs.
Not sure if I have schizophrenia but mine is definitely episodic.
There is also something called simple schizophrenia never heard of it but found it on wikapedia
I think according to the latest DSM5 which is the most used book by psychiatrists, there is only one sz type. Previous DSM books like 10yrs ago had many sz types, simple, paranoid, catatonic and disorganized etc
From what I read simple sz is only having negative symptoms.
Oh okay I didnt know you could only have negative symptoms
I have one continuous episode
with ups and downs, as i said in
another thread before.
Simple -type schizophrenia is characterized by negative (“deficit”) symptoms, such as avolition, apathy, anhedonia, reduced affect display, lack of initiative, lack of motivation, low activity; with absence of hallucinations or delusions of any kind.
As I have only had two episodes I think mine is episodic as it only occurs a few months after stopping meds but then again it could be continuous due to the delusions I had
Continual, but they can fluctuate in severity.
If my psychosis was a dial that goes up to 10, I’m normally on a 2, but can turn up and recede.
I’ve learned some CBT and DBT coping tools to help with the symptoms.
Meds helped immensely, but I still get symptoms, every day it seems it’s something all the time.
SZA depressive.
I wish it had a different name. What that would be, I do not know.
My psychosis has always been on the very frequent episodic side. But now that I’m properly medicated, I’m on the very infrequent episodic side.
