A cure for schizophrenia beckons for us

I will try to make this forum cure-centered.
A center of advocacy for the development of a cure for schizophrenia.
And as quickly as possible, for time is of the essence for schizophrenics.
Getting cured at the age of 25 is not the same as getting cured at 60, because the level of energy is different.
Not to mention people who want to get cured before they reach their grave.
A cure for cancer and cardiovascular problems and dementia and other diseases will also be highly welcome.

There will not be a cure,

You need to focus on better coping skills and see a real doctor.

This forum is for support,

Not a delusional cure campaign.

Indeed, too bad that we will probably be dead before it comes…

@zeno first of all, even if we will be dead, there are future generations.
Second, I believe it will happen sooner than you think.
In my estimate in 5-10 years there will be a cure.

What are your estimates based on?
We don’t even know the physical mechanics of the disease…

@zeno I want to be optimistic, to believe in a better world.
I believe that if we make optimistic forecasts it will motivate the people who work in the appropriate
spheres, like neuroscientists to work harder toward a cure.
It will also raise awareness of schizophrenia and raise awareness of the fact that we hope and want to be cured.
I prefer that psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies not suffer from a cure,
but if they do, they have to make the sacrifice for the good of the patients.
After all when schizophrenia is cured it’s quite possible that people will be able to fully control their genetic parameters and they will be able to do stuff more interesting than manufacturing and prescribing Antipsychotics.

we wont have a cure for a looooong time. the only meds we have now make our illness only 20% better to live with.

The cure for schizophrenia is taking your medication. As many of others have stated on this thread, we will all be dead by the time a possible cure is formulated.

World peace, ending starvation and poverty and disease would be nice too as long as we’re doing wishful thinking.

Be really, really careful for what you wish for. Generally when the world of medicine talks about a “cure” what they really mean is finding a way to prevent the disorder from ever occurring. For example, they found the “cure” to polio, supposedly. Except they did not, they simply found a vaccine to prevent it. Those already affected with polio still had polio, and were basically left to rot because all research for treatments dried up because the “cure” had already been found.

Better to hope for better medication than a cure. I guarantee we will get better medication in our life time…!!!

I would be happy with better medication and I feel that could happen

I’m hoping CBD oil will shut off the hallucinations, and allow me to reduce my meds.

Don’t u feel each one of us can cure themselves?

Why are we not cured? If I knew how to cure myself then I would.

Even a full on cure would take years of highly attentive staff to administer… I mean for now.

It isn’t going to be a pill… it’s going to be an experience that retrains ones brain into normal perception… and also exposes the individual suffering to the psychological pathways that allow it to ACCEPT normality once it returns.

I know that I still have a tendency to bitterly avoid normal life vibes… because they are as complacent and boring as they always have been to me… the only thing that makes them nice occasionally is getting a lucky break from psychosis every once in a while… If I had to spend all of my time in them however… I’d just become a rebel again out of too strong a sense of stagnancy.

I still want to change all that. I still want to calm down… In the long run though it might be more realistic for me to accept all that about myself and realize I need to find healthy ways to cater to my actual psychological needs… instead of always failing to climb to the state of straight-edge-mellow-somber-prude… cause I might just be more fervent than that. Soul is ablaze at times.

Hoping for a cure instead of accepting the treatment that is already available is pushing the responsibility over on someone else.
It’s essentially saying “I don’t need to do anything to get better, someone else will take the problems away from me”

It’s bullshite.

Take responsibility! Do what you can to get better! Accept the help you’ve been offered instead of selfishly thinking you are superhuman and can do it all on your own.
You can’t.
No one can.

If people could will schizophrenia away, there would be no people with the illness.

Take your darn meds and do the darn therapy. Do what YOU can to get better instead of CHILDISHLY wishing someone will come along and take the illness away.
