The beef with my teeth

I’m throwing in the towel when it comes to the battle with keeping my teeth intact. I put a lot of effort into maintaining them. Expense, too. They keep self-destructing. The current score is 15 teeth left. At least a couple are falling apart and 2 more are abscessed at the moment. They’ve been that way since Xmas. An in ability to get a needed blood test because of no family doctor in my town (I’m on a lot of blood thinners) plus the lockdown closing dentists screwed me there.

Anyhow, I’m done. I’ve got benefits through both my employer and also my wife’s. I think if I juggle things properly both benefits will cover full extraction and then a regular set of dentures. I’m one of those people who doesn’t freeze completely so the extractions will be agony, but, gotta be done. I’ve got my cardiologist’s support on this. He was horrifed to learn how long I’ve had untreated infections in my mouth that could lead to bacterial endocarditis.

The next month is gonna be fun. Not.

(Oh, yes, I’ve got three weeks of pacemaker battery left and still no surgery date. That’s the other issue in my life right now.)

What’s the hold up with the pacemaker appointment? You could be at risk.

I hope you get to a dentist soon enough to get that done. My dad has had a tooth infection for years and he is only this year getting that tooth finally extracted. He really doesn’t want dentures but he will need them after that.

You should consider cavitation surgery. Chronic infections in the jaw can cause all kinds of autoimmune havoc in the body.

Also try the Vitamin K2 / D3 thing to give your teeth a second lease. It remineralizes cavities.

I consume a fair bit of sugar during the day and my teeth are fine, due to that supplementation. Not even sensitive.

Wow.

Both those situations are urgent and important.

Hope they get addressed soon.

My adult teeth stopped growing and my teeth had no cavities, but were painful and breaking apart, I got dentures at a young age and have never been sorry I did

The province shut down all elective surgeries for an anticipated flood of COVID patients that didn’t happen. We created about 2200 hospital beds and I don’t think we ever used more than 120 of them. We’re now down to under 60 hospital admissions including ICU. There are a bunch of critical surgeries that got postponed and they’re trying to slam them through. Removing tumours, critical heart surgeries, and such. I hope they are not thinking my pacer has more reserve than it does. My pacemaker clinic is trying to battle on my behalf, they’re now trying to book me in multiple hospitals. I’m completely dependent on it so I’m kind of dead if it stops working.

I don’t understand why the province didn’t load balance and keep some hospitals going with the essential operations and just designate some as COVID only. They basically shut down everything for COVID.

You’re not understanding how far gone most of my teeth are or how many times they’ve been worked on. Most will need crowns if I keep them. They likely aren’t salvageable even with the crowns. The new dentist had a horrified look when she checked out the last X-ray. I guess my previous small town dentist was doing sketchy work and I didn’t know any better.

Man, good luck. You’ll soldier through.

Consider the cavitation thing though, it can really be an issue.

I’ll ask, but keep in mind that I haven’t been able to get a toothache fixed for nearly half a year. Also that dentists have been shut for almost three months and have a hella huge backlog to get through and they’re trying to do it with the restrictions that cut the number of patients they can see in half.

It sounds like your life is falling apart. So glad I’m not you. No offence of course…being as everyone is offended these days.

My teeth definitely are! Lots of anxiety over the pacemaker. Many good things still happening for me, just need to make it past the next challenging month or so. No offence taken.

I hope you do. Good luck with your teeth. Perhaps you should get onto them about your pacemaker and make sure they get you an appointment.

Well, I think they’re doing their best. I know the pacemaker clinic staff are trying hard, they’ve been very supportive. The timing with COVID was just crap. Not sure you can have such a thing as good timing with a pandemic?

I feel you. My teeth keep falling apart. My dentist says I eat too much sugar, but I really do not. I even quit coffee because I use sugar in it. But ye doesn’t believe me because I’m fat.

I don’t eat a lot of sugar. I eat some sugar. Do I eat a lot of carbs? Yeah, they keep my diverticular disease happy. I think I’m just one of those people with self-destructing teeth. I mean, I’ve brushed, flossed, you name it, several times a day. Even have one of those stupid Water Pic thingies I use religiously. I’ve come to view my teeth as mini, calcified, suicide bombers.

You’ve totally got my sympathies here. This is a crappy problem to have and I don’t understand why there isn’t universal dental care.

@shutterbug You can add me to the list of those with terrible teeth . It’s a combination of bad oral hygiene(constantly forgetting to brush) teeth grinding, and not having seen the dentist as much as I should due to being quite phobic re seeking a dentist .

I had mentioned about dentures to my stepdaughter , and she had made an appointment for me , but that was cancelled due to the virus situation .
Like you I tend to find the anaesthetic doesn’t work fully on me .

I hope they can sort things out for you in as short a time as possible.

Are you a redhead by chance?

Weird that @Ninjastar mentions redheads. My hair has faded, but has red in it, especially in summer. Not noticeable like it used to be.

Redheads generally need more anesthesia than the general population.
