Tell me about anti depressants. how long do they take to work? can you take them for a short time, like 3 months? are they addictive?

anybody know the answers to these questions?

It’s been years since I took an antidepressant. I was on Efexor, an SSRI type Med.

I don’t know if you would call it addictive, but it is pure hell trying to wean off it.

I am now taking 5-HTP, which is a precursor to serotonin. I take two capsules a day, and I can stop anytime without negative side effects

some meds like effexor can induce mania and then you get bipolar added to your list of problems and get to take mood stabilizers for life.

You could be right, I’ve never heard that. What I found on Effexor is that you feel flat and dead inside. Not good nor bad, just numb

ADs are hard to discontinue due to withdrawals. But if your dr helps wean you off of them it’s not so bad. And they can be taken short term like a few months.

effexor can be very addictive. i suggest researching “brain zaps”. I assure you effexor and some other antidpressants can cause “medication induced bipolar disorder”

Ask your PDoc if I am correct.
