I have 4-5 cups of tea a day and am now entering my 5th day without stevia in my brew.
I couldn’t justify spending £16 a month on stevia crystals, and started to put on weight when I switched to sugar at a fraction of the cost so am trying to make the shift to sugar free tea.
Has anyone else made this shift? How long did it take to get used to it?
I lift the cup to my lips expecting to taste the familiar sweet nectar and am always disappointed to take my first sip. By the end of the cup I feel that the tea was ok, but not delicious like it used to be.
I wonder whether I even liked the tea or was it just the sweetness that i liked in the first place?
I am hoping that it will take around 2 weeks to get used to it, but have the feeling that I won’t be loving it like I used to. Does anybody else feel like this, I wonder?
I dont like tea. It tastes bitter to me. Sounds like you are saying the same?
You could try fruit / ginger / red tea. Those are all sweeter (without sugar).
And of course theres coffee which I drink loads of and never used sugar with.
I have my tea with a lot of milk that seems to make it nice. Black tea that is. But then again i never really liked tea with sugar. Im a simple gal at heart.
Try herbal teas. Some are amazing without anything but the water and the tea bag. My favorite is Bengal spice tea. But there are lots of flavors to choose from. And they taste great
What makes you say that?
I was amazed that a can of pepsi max is 2 calories when it tastes so good and was curious what the downsides of artificial sweeteners are.
There are various scientific studies that link aspartme and others with negative blood sugar and cancer risks. The pro sweetner lobby have their own scientific studies too saying the opposite.
If I was to have a sweetner I would use stevia derived from the plant and not take the risk with the others.
Some do while others don’t. Eliminating almost all sugary foods is far more difficult than drinking non sweet tea 4-5 times a day.
You might want to tweak how strong of a tea you drink. Sugar or sweeteners suppress that bitter spice like taste of tea. Tweak with milk/creamer amount.
I’ve tried several times and have always failed. I wind up buying bulk artificial sweetner from a restaurant supplier. It’s actually pretty affordable if you go that route.
I tried a couple of times to get used to tea without sugar, and failed. But i dont drink it every day.
I am actually allergic to aspartame, and stevia gives me headaches, splenda makes me crave real sugar anyway, so i just use sugar. I understand about the weight, but in my case, I probably only drink two cups of tea a month. When I was making pitchers of cold sweet tea, I gained weight too, so I had to stop that.
Spent way too much money on herbal teas and hated them all.
I would just consider the stevia my special treat, and cut back in other areas. Especially since you enjoy your tea so much every day.
