Talk me out of quitting my meds

I’ve made friends with my voices now. It took a bit but I’m on board now. I’m on 3MG of Risperdal. And I wonder to myself, maybe I should just jump and pull that ripcord, you know? See what happens after a few months on nothing. Maybe my voices and I will merge past insanity into something new. Who’s with me?

Or maybe you need an increase of your AP. My opinion

What if the voices become unfriendly?-the longer psychotic symptoms are left untreated, the less the chances are of remission when treated. (although other factors count as well like having a support system)

I would not risk that, personally. Probably time you either upped your AP or switch. Make sure you mention to your pdoc that you’ve been trying to make friends with them.

I just finished reading two minutes ago that the number #1 cause of relapse in schizophrenia is not taking your meds.

Change your med when you don’t like it but don’t quit, its too soon, you need at least 7 to 12 months of complete sanity before even starting to reduce your intake and even more for quitting them,

I won’t quit my meds. You hear me, @Om_Sadasiva we shouldn’t quit our meds.

Without your meds the voices will turn louder and more vicious. I’ve been there.

I’m NOT with you on this. Keep taking your meds as prescribed, please? You will surely end up back in the psych ward if you go off your meds. That’s almost a guarantee. Think of the time wasted. Think of the hassle. Think of the expense!! Think of the hell your hallucinations will put you through!!

If you’re still hallucinating, you are not in remission. Without meds, you could lose the delicate balance that keeps your voices friendly. When I’m medicated, I have a fairly good relationship with my hallucinations and they mostly tell jokes or play me music. Off meds, I start to hear the screams of my family members being tortured in very specific ways, and it’s awful.

Actually, I haven’t had any hallucinations at all in over a year, but that wasn’t until years of faithfully taking my meds.

This does not sound good. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Is 3 mg of Risperdal the only med you take @SunLion?

And by the way, please take your meds as prescribed and talk to a pdoc about your interest in stopping meds. He/she can best advise you.

Good luck!!

Talk to your doctor before you do anything. Tbh it seems like at least your hallucinations aren’t bothering you too bad right now. I wouldn’t do anything to upset the apple cart if I were you. In other words keep doing your meds.

If you have other concerns about your meds talk to your doctor.

We would all like to quit our meds but mostly it’s a bad idea as we need them.
