I’ve got to say, I’m so relieved to read your post and the replies to it so far. I thought I was the only one. I’ve been having tactile experiences for a little over 7 months now, but I’m not 100% convinced they’re hallucinations. My primary care doctor told me he’s never heard of someone who’s 60 developing Sz- although I was diagnosed as Sz-affective by a psych about 7 years ago.
Over the past 7 months, these experiences have progressed, very slowly. The strange thing is, they only rarely occur anywhere other than my bed- or when I lie down anywhere in my apartment. It started by feeling like someone was massaging my feet. Progressed to feeling like my legs were being moved. Then like entire body is being snugly wrapped in something. Later, I could feel the back of my head and neck being touched, or lines being traced across them. A couple of months into this, it felt like something was inserted into my rectum and something was stimulating my ■■■■■. It resulted in an intense orgasmic feeling, that had me shuddering. This happened a few tImes. Throughout these experiences, I can feel and hear tapping on my mattress, and pressure on the mattress like someone is sitting on it or getting up. Most recently, I’ve felt like my lower back was being pushed, and there have been visual things (which also seem to be progressing).
At first it looked like there was vapor in my room, some of which passed out my shut window into the back yard. Over time I began to see flashes of red or blue light in the vapor, until now the vapor itself looks bluish or reddish. Then I started seeing shapes in the vapor- including the transparent shape of men walking toward my bed and away from it. These shapes reach out and touch me or tap on the bed.
Ever since this started, when my legs feel like they were being moved, the muscles in my legs physically quiver, and there’s a “stimulated” feeling like a very low current. More recently this feeling has moved up my body. One time I saw one of the “phantoms” pointing something at my body and a vapor sprayed out of it. As the vapor covered me, I got that strange “stimulated” feeling.
Sometimes that feeling borders on euphoria.
Strangely enough, I can usually relax and go to sleep with all of this going on. I think that’s because it has all come on so gradually, because I don’t feel threatened (maybe I should?), and my faith in God is usually pretty strong.
The other night I was lying there with my eyes closed. I opened them and (instead of blue or red vapor) saw a small black rectangular box sitting on my arm. I watched move just an inch or two up my arm and then it retreated away off the edge of the bed and disappeared like it was vapor too. But it had looked quite solid. Two nights ago, a similar thing happened, however, when the box retreated, I could see it was actually the end of a long, black, narrow tube that had extended itself across my bed to rest on my arm. Last night, there was nothing like that, however there was a black “heap” a little higher than my mattress, at the foot of my bed. I found this a little unsettling, but I managed to stay calm by praying. Out of the corner of my eye it looked like a moving figure of light was almost behind me, and some kind of dark wisps of something kept flickering in front of my face. It felt like liquid was running through my scalp toward my face. And threads were spidering their way up my chest onto my neck.
A couple of other things I’ve noticed. These things normally only occur if I’m in the bed, lying on my right side. If I sit up, roll over, sneeze, cough, or simply move, they stop. On several occasions, however, I’ve noticed that if I do simply change positions, I get these annoying, but not painful “pokes” as if something is trying to coax me back into position, and these pokes can go on for a long time. There have been a couple of times when I finally just fell asleep in spite of them.
In addition to the vapor and the figures in the vapor, I’ve seen faces, lights and swirling bell-shaped things outside my window. In addition to red and blue, these objects/lights have brown, purple, yellow and green colors. I’ve also seen the vapor swooshing in streams around my room, what looks like little vortexes swirling around my room, and I’ve felt these- like breezes on my face.
My psych has tried tweaking my medication over the past 7 months, to no avail. No matter what he adds to or subtracts from my regimen, these experiences continue to progress, another reason I’m not convinced they’re hallucinations.
There are a lot of other details I could share, but I’ve already written too much. I just wanted to share my experience. I wanted to see if anyone thinks it’s time to put on my straitjacket. I wanted to see if anyone thinks, like me, that some part of these experiences is rooted in reality. And I wanted to confirm what everyone else here is saying. If these are hallucinations, then tactile hallucinations are a real thing. Neither my psych nor my primary care doctor had ever heard of them. If you’ve read this far, I’d love some feedback.
