Synaesthesia is when the senses mix. Some smell textures, some hear colours, and some give personalities to letters and numbers.
Mine revolves around colours. Every other sensory input, smell, taste, touch, etc, had colours associated. So do words and letters and numbers.
I also smell textures.
Trumpets sound blue to me, pain is seen as white spears, and a certain combination of white and pink makes me smell strawberries.
Does anyone else have this? I noticed some of you were having a discussion about smelling music earlier, so I figured I might not be alone.
Which suggests high psychosis prone people self report synaesthesia more , but don’t actually experience it more according to the tests they gave them.
I see and smell music, it’s what led to the Aperger’s diagnosis. I had my psychiatrist ask me if the APs were dialing back my hallucinations and I told him that the weird visions and smells related to sounds – particularly music – were not diminishing at all. That’s when some more testing was done and I was told I was a synaesthete. I’ve had it my whole life, but had assumed it was an early manifestation of the SZ.
I definitely get a sexual hallucinatory experience from music. I can see orgasm at the end of an epic piece. One song in particular, “Maiden Voyage” by Blood, Sweat & Tears, did this to me. I couldn’t tell whether it was the illness or the Vraylar… or maybe just me.
