Is synaesthesia more common in schizophrenics?

Synaesthesia is a crossing of the senses that makes someone hear colours, smell textures, give numbers personalities, etc.

I have it. I hear, smell, taste and feel colours, I smell textures, I have colours and personalities for numbers and letters, and I “see” pain as sharp shapes of light that flash across my field of vision.
Now that I’m medicated, it’s lessened a bit, but I still have it.

I’m wondering if it’s more common in schizophrenics.
What do you guys think?

(I’d make a poll if I knew how)

I have this too! Sounds have colors and tastes for me. I think this was always there, and it did not go away for me with the meds.

It is strange, I hope this post isn’t detrimental to recovery, but people who take hallucinogenic drugs report “hearing colors” “seeing sounds” etc… and hallucinogenic drugs are supposed to mimic schizophrenia. So it is very interesting to me that people experience this through schizophrenia AND through drugs??

it used to be that some numbers had colors, but I don’t have that anymore. I haven’t thought about that in years.
