My sister has been staying at my mum’s for a bit and she bought mum a puppy
Mum was hit by a car (I was there) and she had to have open fib tib surgery to fix her foot back on with plates and screws
She has since had complications DAY and pulmonary embolism
She is 3 months later, still needs 2 crutches most of the time and can walk far enough to get to a nearby bus or taxi
She still hasn’t walked Eli
My sister then after looking after mum for the acute time for 6 weeks, has gone travelling in continental Europe for about 4 months. My husband is on 12 week training course 5 hrs away
He is back at weekends and is helluva moody and tired when I see him we have 2 cats and as I’m staying with mum they are 5k away
I go once a day for a couple of hours sometimes 2x it’s up to 2 different bus rides away
Or one and a mile or 2 walk
I’m averaging almost 20000 steps a day
I cook and wash for my husband and mum
Feed and cuddle my cats
Do all mum’s housework and all everyone’s cooking and cleaning
I’m toilet training Eli and walking and playing bath and grooming as well as lots of trips to the vet
Before this gym and cooking was all I was responsible for ! one place and I had help cleaning (Mum or a cleaner)
I
Anyway so here I am with a puppy now 6 months old and I don’t ever want to give him back
Wow! Cute dog but a lot on your plate! Keep some time, even if it’s an hour a day for you time! Do something you like doing! Reading a book, relaxing…doing nothing even! It helps with the stress of dealing with all your dealing with.
Well done to you and keep cool! And yes a cute little dog!
Thanks Rogue
I gained 10lbs
Time to change eating habits
Been coping with more responsibility than ever before in my life
Feel I can say I’m coping cos it’s a few weeks in now
Yeah I’m all good. Really in a good space but my mother isn’t doing so well! Doing a lot of housework I haven’t done for a while and can relate to your journey! Dad and I are doing ok…melanoma is a prick of a cancer!
Change that snacking! 20,000 steps a day is a great thing! I do the same and I feel great…diet is my downfall too!
That’s a lot of responsibility that you have to deal with. Remember to take some time for yourself to unwind and de-stress, even if it’s just 15 minutes at a time.
How’s your mom doing? How’s her recovery going? I’m currently at my mom’s house taking care of her while she recovers from injuries from an accident. Just doing that alone is hard work. I can’t imagine having to do all the other stuff that you’re having to do, in addition.
Who buys a dog for Abernethy that can’t take care of it?!? I’m glad you’re able to help take care of it, but that was a really irresponsible decision on your sisters part.
my mum stepped one step off the curb absentmindedly or to get away from a crush of people Electric car behind her, pulling in to park
She is weight bearing and has enough independence to be left overnight occasionally and half a day if everything is set up
By that time whole flat stinky with dog!
She can make it to a bus and walk 30 m tops each way
She has a lift and communal car park with benches and some plants
She can get out to the back there with Eli the puppy
She can’t stand stable enough to stand under a shower
Is a mile away from climbing a staircase
Her being back as good as she was is a dream
The survival rate is affected even up to 5 years
But she is 75 and smokes
She is older than the footballers who go back to playing 9 months after a bad tackle
Further malicious misconduct incident had her immobile for a further 3 weeks - she was handled badly by a medical driver- fell and fractured ribs
3 weeks after that she had DVT And pulmonary embolism
From being immobile for so long
She is filing a law suite
I think in recovery she is half way almost
Other than things like stairs
Would agree but my mum was mobile and healthy before - when the puppy was decided on and taken home
A long thoughts went into it
The reason mum has not yet walked him is she walked in front of a car after the puppy had had his injections and needed to stay in
Before he was allowed near other dogs mum was hit
We’d had him for2 weeks
Sorry to hear, I hope your mum is okay
I know that my sister was around the whole first 6-8 weeks
Sis had been having a breakdown but pulled herself together and did the most amazing job anyone can when washing or toilet were impossible
When I took over she was only a couple of weeks or a few weeks still in need of a wheelchair.
I think the stress goes up with the level of care and it is definitely a lot for a schizophrenic
I feel like I have my own little family
Although that’s clearly ridiculous cos it’s not the same
Unfortunately, my mom had a bad accident a couple of weeks ago. Her car rolled down the driveway when she stepped out the drivers side door and she was dragged out into the street. She has major wounds on both legs. Fortunately she has no broken bones.
My sister stayed with my mom the first two weeks of recovery and I am staying with her this week and possibly next week.
When this happened to my mom, it made me immediately think of your mom and her accident. It sounds like your mom is making pretty good progress healing from her injuries, especially for her age.
Thanks, yes she is starting to move around a bit more and seems to have survived a dvt and pulmonary embolism
I’m horrified at what that must-have been like for your mum!
Unbelievably scary thing to happen.
How amazing that nothing was broken
Sounds very possible that it is bad enough without!
