I have support workers twice a week to help with community activities, do you have any supports for your disability
I get 31 hours a week one-to-one support from support workers paid by social services.
I had a care manager and a bunch of hours for peer support. I pulled out of those as I got better and now just see a pdoc and a therapist.
I don’t think we have that in the public health system in Trinidad. That would be a private arrangement. There are social workers we can speak to.
My support worker gave me this phone. It’s a phone for poor people.
I’ve been my own support worker for over a quarter century.
What country are you from @Divergent ?
I see a case manager once a month. I see a therapist weekly but I’m taking a break from therapy right now. I see my pdoc once every two months
Australia @ZmaGal
Had several support workers. By the time they get to know you they quit then some other dipsh!t off the street comes in and you have to give your whole story again.
I gave up. Just have therapist and pdoc.
I’m from England. I’ve had 31 hours a week support for 12 years now. I do community things like food shopping and going to the cinema. I’ve even been on vacation abroad with my staff a few times but that expensive and outside the 31 hours I have to fund myself.
I also have a community nurse which I see every 3 weeks, plus pdoc every 3 months. I also attend a day centre 4 afternoons a week and this is NHS, its hard to get a placement there.
All this is at no cost me as its fully funded.
In Australia I have ndis I have 10 hour per week but at the moment I use 6 I also just got a cleaner once a month, my support worker takes me shopping get takeaway I’ve been to the movies and beach before and social support
Every year around Christmas my community nurse takes me to this lovely village restaurant. We are exactly the same age, 36. I’ve had him as my community nurse for 7 years now and he has no plans on leaving so I feel pretty secure. He also wrote me a wonderful letter for my disability review and after reading the letter the assessor said I shouldn’t of been called to the assessment and that my money will remain the same. I really like him as a community nurse.
Ok. I was curious because you get so much help.
Here the only community support comes from the support my friends give me at our clubhouse…they only do “intensive case management” if you cannot live alone, just came out of jail, or are homeless. I had it for a few months but was disillusioned by how little help it actually provided. Now I see a therapist every 2 weeks and my pdoc every 2 months. I’m finally happy to have a therapist that I get along with.
