I have a new lady to help me at home. She supports me in my household and bringing structure to daily life. She also helps me to get good care, for example by going with me to an appointment with a psychiatrist to support me. And I can tell her about daily troubles and positives. She is a social worker.
I don’t easily trust mental health workers, because I have had quite traumatic experiences with them. I find them scary.
But she just really seems like a “fit”. I like how she is warm, open, caring and places humanity above protocols and rules. She is flexible. She really tries and look at what is important to me. She shares about her own life and flaws as well, without oversharing. I like that, because it makes her human. She is christian. And if I ever collapse so badly that I need a group home, her organisation has that.
She also knows a lot about newer and critical initiatives of mental health care in our environment.
Just wanted to share.
Who is your favourite “professional helper”, whether a social worker or psychiatrist or psychologist? What makes you like him or her?
Oh no, I don’t get daily help. It is twice a week. She helps with both practical things, like my household, and social things. I mean I share what happens in my daily life. I can share that twice a week
No, Western-European. Here these types of social workers, who really help in organizing the household, come this often. The lightest category of help is once a week. I could get twice a week. And then there are even more regular helps, that really take over the household and organizing.
I think its common in the UK. Some users here use it.
Also @lekkerhondje I think has someone who takes her out like a social worker etc I think she’s in Belgium.
Yes, it is great, I’m thankful for it. I don’t want to say my country, but I live in North-West Europe. I pay a little bit (I think 20 euros a month). She really is a great support already, helping to clean the house and going to appointments that I find scary and being an emotional support. I was robbed of everything, including my debitcard, so I didn’t have any money at all. She organized 100 euros (a gift! :)) from some kind of fund so that I could eat. I dont always like my country, but they do have many good arrangements like these.
America is still in a lot of ways an “every man for himself” place, but they do provide a small amount of disability pay which I am super grateful for.
