Stuff going on

i went to the pdoc and he raised the dose of the amitriptyline. my mother in law wants me to get prayed over by her brother in law. i’m incredibly uncomfortable with that. she said she wants to invite the church elders and uncle albert to come pray over me. I don’t think it will help.

Then last night I felt funny and thought a demon was trying to possess me it was scary.

I doubt if their praying could hurt you any. You might do well with a conciliatory approach.

What do you feel about the religious approach to your illness? If they are going over they boundaries with you, you need to tell them.

I’m going to be blunt, there are no such things as demons, so they can’t possess you.

it would if you wanted it to…

Faith… the ongoing placebo…

Not quite as sturdy as learned optimism… although in weakened mental states even that can falter.

Just say no then.

There might be a connection here.

I can tell myself there are no such things as demons but my brain sometimes gets paranoid and I can’t sleep.

I understand, and I’m sorry for that. I wish that environment was safer for your mental health, you need to be strong. What does your partner say about all of this?

she doesn’t want to tell her mom we don’t believe in that kind of stuff, she knows it will just cause a fight because my mother in law is convinced the praying cured her of lupus.

You need to put your mental health as your priority there, if that kind of thinking isn’t good for your mental health that’s more important. If you think that it really doens’t matter if she prays for you or not, then go, if you think it will make things worse, don’t go.
